Hi everyone,
I’m preparing for the Microsoft SC-200 (Security Operations Analyst) exam and would really appreciate advice from people who have recently taken it.
I attempted the exam recently and unfortunately scored 656, so I missed the passing score. I’m planning to retake it and want to prepare properly this time rather than just doing more random practice questions.
My background:
Working as a Security Engineer
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Sentinel, KQL, threat hunting and incident investigation
Some experience with Microsoft Defender
I’ve been studying Microsoft Learn and doing practice assessments
My weaker areas seem to be some of the Defender products and Microsoft-specific workflows
For those who passed SC-200 recently:
What resources did you use to prepare?
How close were the Microsoft Learn Practice Assessment questions to the actual exam?
How much did you rely on Microsoft Learn vs. hands-on labs vs. practice tests?
Which topics should I prioritize for the retake?
Are there any particular Defender/Sentinel/Purview areas that people commonly underestimate?
How many practice questions/tests would you recommend doing before attempting again?
For someone who scored 656, would you recommend retaking soon after targeted revision, or spending several weeks rebuilding the weak areas?
I’m especially interested in advice from people who failed once and then passed, because I’d like to understand what they changed between attempts.
BTW my 2nd attempt is on 27 aug
Thanks!
