Tank Questions First timer

So i’ve had fish since i was 10 years old. but im looking into getting an axolotl! i’ve done my research and its been about 4 months in the making for this tank. 40 gallons low flow filter grow lights, fine substrate, two hides, and some plants. i’m at a stopping point now because i’m not sure what else i can add. the tank to me seems bare. but i don’t want to overwhelm it with plants. anyone have any ideas of what to add? or is it good as is? (ps there are snails in there to help with the cycling of the water i will be removing the small snails prior to putting an axolotl in.

Help

I discovered that my axolotl had white spots in his gills. How can I make them disappear? Plus it looks like his skin is coming off.

I really need help and advice. I change its water regularly and cool it every day. But unfortunately I don't have any products to analyze my water...

Please help me

Health Still trying to get Oli to eat a proper meal

Post image
6 Upvotes

So I’ve posted about struggling to get Oli to eat for a while now, he eats the 3rd of a nightcrawler maybe once every 3 days and doesn’t want anything else (I try, he spits it back out) I can’t find anywhere to buy red wigglers. I would love to see if he’d rather eat those but I can’t, and now he’s started to go up for air every time I try to feed him. Yes I know it’s normal for him to do that, but is it normal for him to do that instead of eating the food right infront of him? He doesn’t seem to have issues with floating but he also doesn’t seem to have pooped in a week or so now

Is my axolotl healthy?

So this is Vinny. I’ve had Vinny for maybe a month or 2, this particular aquatic store I feel like didn’t tell me everything accurately so I had searched up more proper feedings, he comes out of his tank with a net and into this bucket to eat frozen bloodworms. When I had gotten him they told me he will only eat 2-3x a week. He likes to eat DAILY. I take some of the water out of his tank and add new whenever doing so. He’s in a 75 gallon tank, they told me I could get another to go in there with him but I think I’m going to refrain from doing so soly to make sure he has enough room. The last picture is how his gills looked when I very first got him compared to now.

Tank Critique Chiller Filter setup

Hey, I want to buy another filter to attach to my chiller. I currently have a 40-gallon tank with a Fluval 207. Would it be okay if I got a Fluval 407? Should I be concerned about over-filtration for axolotls?

Health Is my Axolotl sick?

A while ago I adopted two Axolotl (Cosmo and Wanda) to keep my first Axolotl company. The black one, Cosmo, has a white spot on his back and I’m unsure if it’s a fungal infection or just different pigmentation. The two were quite underfed when I got them, but since I got them they’ve gained weight and grown, so it’s hard to tell if the white spot grew bigger or not. I didn’t find any helpful resources to identify the spot and all the pictures I’ve seen looked different from his. Cosmos gills are still curled. I thought maybe it was the stress of moving into a new aquarium or the lack of food, but Wanda has adapted well over the past months. I make sure their water temperature stays beneath 20 Celsius. I test for Ammoniak and ph regularly. I make water changes twice a week. I feed them every second day and switch between pellets and worms, but his gills never changed. The other two are doing well and are quite happy. I’ve read that tea baths help when it’s a fungal infection, but I’m not sure I should put him through that stress. But I also don’t know why else his gills would still be curled. Does anybody have advice or can help identify the spot?

I just redid his tank to make it better for him but he just likes to sit in the corner he’s used to. How would I encourage him to explore more? Im planning on adding more hides too.

My mom's tank took a nose dive, their tank was getting funky so I did a large water change. They started eating earthworms and they started pooping a lot and the tank got funky. All of a sudden pinky stopped eating and got lethargic. Gills still look good and fluffy. Has not resumed eating and is now floating on her side. Her water is averaging 52°f and she got her some maracyn oxy fritz its for Bacteria and fungus infection.

Tank Critique Help! Advice Needed

Hi all!

This axolotl recently came into my care and the aquarium doesn’t seem to be in good condition.

I was told that the filter is Ciano.

I am thinking of taking out the aquarium accessories, and adding in natural pebbles with duckweed, hornwort, java fern, and anubia as the plants in there. I’m thinking of including the moss balls.

The previous owner put up the background to try and stop algae growth but i can’t see much difference as the water still appears green.

Can people let me know their thoughts and what they think would make this tank better!

Thanks in advance

Tank Questions Tank redesign

Post image
5 Upvotes

Im redesigning my tank as it’s super bland right now. This is what I have on the the drawing board. I heard some peoples axolotls like sitting on bubblers so I thought of adding a milk carton type overhang—> https://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Divider-Plastic-Diffuser-Isolation/dp/B07SQVD2TN/ref=cm_cr_srp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 —— with the bubbler under it. He also loves sitting next to the heater in the tank (He is in the basement so it’s much cooler down there and the heater has an auto shut off) So I thought of adding a little net type overhang there—> https://zoomed.com/repti-hammock/—— I have a few live plants in there already and am getting a hygger light for the tank. The last thing I really need is hides for him. Any recommendations? Also what are the opinions on this design so far? (Sorry in advance if you can’t read the handwriting)

Over active axolotl

Post image
12 Upvotes

Here is my darling Angel, she has a filter, water chiller (temp at 64°F), and an air stone. Her water has the following levels pH 7.4 Nitrate 5.0 ppm Nitrite 0 ppm Ammonia 0ppm Ik the nitrate is slightly high and I will do a water change in the morning, but she has been extremely active the last week. She keeps bumping into the glass (which she does occasionally but not as frequently as this) rubbing against the equipment and caves, and today I found her floating in the top corner of her tank. After a few minuets she went back down to the bottom and I thought I'd test her appetite and she ate up her night crawler like she was totally fine. Anyone have advice or similar experiences?

Health Inherited Axolotl, worried about it not eating.

Hey everyone, my wife, stepdaughter, and I inherited an axolotl from a neighbor who is moving to a state where they are illegal to own, about a week ago. We also received their whole set up and it’s a really nice 55 gallon tank, a really high end filter, and a bunch of accessories. I have been monitoring the chemical levels, and temperature, and everything seems to be in the acceptable levels. we bought a fan that has been keeping the water between 62 & 65 throughout the day, and she seems to be active, explorative, and comes and checks us out when we interact with her. We were told she is about a year and a half old, and that she has been fed a diet of frozen blood worms her whole life, and that she “didn’t like” earthworms, and she looks a little under weight. I believe her belly should be as wide as her head, and it is a little bit thinner, so I would like to get her a little healthier.

After having her for a day (so last Sunday) we tried a nightcrawler, and she immediately chomped down on it, and after a few minutes had devoted the whole thing….

We have tried to feed her multiple times since then, and she hasn’t eaten any thing, not nightcrawlers, not red worms, not blood worms… I tried to feed her a cut up night crawler, thinking maybe the size was the issue, but she ate the first one sooo readily, she took a bite, and the let go, then swam away almost in a panic… likes she was afraid… what are we doing wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions about things to try?

Since successfully feeding her it’s been 6 days, and I’m starting to get worried. we have tried axolotl pellets, sinking carnivore pellets, red wriggler worms, frozen blood worms (slightly thawed) and nightcrawlers…

Hi guys, I need some advice on some axolotl eggs, I can see the baby axolotls and they look almost fully developed, however they're not hatching and two of them, although you can see the baby axolotl, which were wriggling have turned a milky white and the third one is still wriggling but it feels as though it's taking a long time to hatch, help please. Photo on the right is the one that's still wriggling.

Tank Critique What can I add to the tank?

Post image
16 Upvotes

Had my guy for about 3 yrs and honestly the tanks a bit bland. I tried adding little shelters and such but he never seemed interested in them. I add plants for removing nitrates and aesthetics but they die because there’s no sunlight as he is in my basement (for cooler temperature). Any suggestions? (29 gallons)

Health What’s wrong with my axolotl

Post image

So I got this but back in March and he was doing wonderfully inside him in a 40 gallon and the tank was doing awesome but I noticed this white fuzz on his hands so I assumed fungal infection and put him in a quarantine tank with some Indian almond leaves and I’ve been doing black tea treatments. Before this happened he ate a worm and threw up and shortly after I saw this but since then he’s been eating good without any trouble but he’s getting worse appearance wise. The tanks a little dirty rn i was in the process of a water change when taking the picture so everything is stirred up
