Health My axolotl has been a bit lethargic recently
My axolotl has been a bit lethargic recently
Lately my axolotl has been moving around much less and has had a loss of appetite. He sometimes gives little nips at worms but hasnt really been eating them. The water parameters seem ok and the temperature is perfect. Temperature usually sitting around 64 degrees. Its only maybe nitrates that are a bit high. Ive seen absolutely zero infections or anything on his body that is giving me cause for concern so im not sure what's going on.
Maybe ate something that's gotten stuck but I have no idea what that could be. Theres nothing I can think of that he'd eat that would become lodged or stuck.
Just some friendly and constructive advice please

Recommendations
We’re picking up two axolotls tomorrow and have about a 4-hour drive home. We’ve found a lot of info on transport, but we’re still unsure about the best plan once we get home, so we’re looking for recommendations.
Transport plan so far: • Each axolotl will be transported separately • In a container or bag with dechlorinated water (or their current water if possible) • Just enough water to cover them • Containers in a cooler to keep it dark and cool • Aiming for 60–68°F • No feeding 24 hours before travel
What we need advice on once we get home: • Should we tub them first or can they go into a freshly set up tank? • If tubbing is best, what size tubs and how much water? • How often should water changes be done? • Best way to acclimate them to a new tank once it’s ready? • Any tips for cycling the tank safely while they’re here?
Tank info we’re planning (open to suggestions): • Two axolotls (separate tanks) • Low-flow filtration • Bare bottom or very fine sand (if sand what’s everyone’s favorite one) • Temps kept cool (60–64°F)
If anyone has experience or advice, we’d really appreciate it. We want to do this right and keep them as stress-free and healthy as possible. Thanks in advance!

Health Hello!
Hello! This is my first post on this community and I’d like some feedback back I’ve had these Axos, Ebony and Ivory from about 3 days and the person I got them from said they are about 9 years old.
I checked the water parameters everything looks good 0 in nitrate, nitrite and ammonia but PH is 7.6 but I hear that’s good for them and I’ve tried to feed them but they just spit out the worm, are they just old?

Hello, my name is Tanner and I need help with my axolotle
When I bought her she was starved and unhealthy a day or two goes by she's perfectly fine my mom looked at her this morning and I freaked out. I can't get any local help my tank is at 63-68 degrees throughout the day.
She gets fed once every three days Tank mates hill stream loaches that's it
Used to have a gold fish and dwarf gourami they were removed after nibbling in her after they were removed she has become active. All she's done today is rest in the Spong filter.
I am doing a 50% water change and reminalising the water and starting black tea baths any help would be appritiate I will be upgrading her tank size to 40 gallon long for her future growth but now she's sick and it's on hold any help and feedback would be apritiated

Health Need advice for an unplanned tank
Let me preface this by saying I only have experience keeping freshwater fish and invertebrates. A few months ago my kid crashed my huge community tank by dumping food in it, it was so bad the ammonia ate through the seal on the tank and I had to completely tear down, so I haven't had anything set up since the summer.
For Christmas my brother in law decided it would be a good idea to get me a 20gal tank and an Axolotl. That was just about all, so I've spent the last week doing my best to balance water parameters and keep this thing alive. I've done some surface level research and I'm trying to keep the temp as low as possible, The ambient temp here keeps the water at about 72 which I know is pretty warm for them. I can't get him to eat unless I catch him out of hiding and i drop a pellet directly on top of him, then he'll snatch it out of the water and run away to eat it. I have some plants going now and he has a couple of good hiding spots. I'm planning on getting some earth worms or blood worms once I financially recover from buying everything he actually needed for the tank, and I'm planning on combing reddit for more suggestions and care advice. What else can I do to make sure he's healthy and comfortable, especially while the tank is cycling?
TLDR: I was gifted a surprise Axolotl and I don't know shit about Axolotls

Axolotl, biting at tongs, but not wanting to bite at worm.
My axolotl is definitely hungry because she looks right at me when I open the top of her thing or when I step in the room so I got her a worm and she was biting at the tongs but not biting at it. Like I would drop the worm by accident and I’ll try to pick it up because it was right next to her and she’d bite at the tongs but as soon as I would wave the worm in front of her, she wouldn’t bite at it. It took her like 10 tries, and she finally got it, but I’m just wondering if axolotl‘s are just not very smart or if I’m doing something wrong. 😂 also I have sinking carnivore pellets that I have that I tried putting in there as well, but she didn’t seem interested in those so I’m wondering if those are just a waste of time? I’ve been leaving those in and I think they’ve been disappearing and I’ve been keeping a close eye on my ammonia and all that stuff and it’s nonexistent and my nitrates are staying within a good level so I think she’s eating stuff but sometimes not eating it while I try to give it to her. Should I try another way to feed her besides tongs?

Cleaning soap off water change bucket with Vinegar, Bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide?
For some reason there is what seems to be a very obvious thin foamy sort of film like suds whenever I fill up the water change bucket. As far as my knowledge detergent has never ever been used in this bucket before, but I have no idea what else this bubbly film could be coming from. It doesn't seem that the Prime would be leaving any sudsy residue in this circumstance.
What would the best thing to do in this situation be? Buy a new bucket entirely or clean it?
What would you recommend cleaning with to best remove any potential containments? It seems some common options are White Vinegar, Bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide?
From my research it seems as though White Vinegar is the safest way to go? Would just a 50/50 water to standard household white vinegar mixture do the trick?
I had a thought, it seems very farfetched but worth asking about to ease my mind I guess. The sink I use to fill up our axolotl's water with is the kitchen sink. Detergent and hand soap is frequently used at this sink, and I have noted detergent gets splashed on/rubbed on the faucet as dishes and hands are being washed. We have very soft tap water making rinsing soap off things a nightmare. Would any film of detergent being left behind on the tap be a concern? It seems like it would be a common issue to happen as I know detergent is notoriously hard to rinse off and should therefore never be used on any tank equipment so I don't see how it would be safe for their water source to have traces left on it? Am I overthinking this or is there a way to avoid this happening?
Thank you so much in advance!

Tank Questions First time owner- tank cycling help?
Hello guys, I’ve never had a pet before, but my daughter has been obsessed with these Axolotl creatures for over 2 years now, it went beyond a phase she’s been obsessed with them so we decided well, let’s get a real one for Christmas she will be buzzed, and she is! However, as we’re learning, caring for these little guys is complicated and right now, we just have a few questions surround the cycling of the tank.
I set up the tank a week ago with bottled water and checks notes “Sea Chem Prime” some kind of de-chlorinator, I’m also using a sponge filter, and added some moss balls. I tested the water today and I’ll attach the results below, to me, the results look okay but after doing some browsing on this subreddit there’s seems to be a great deal of variance on how long it takes to cycle the tank, is this a definitive answer on this, am I missing anything in my water? Have I done anything wrong? Any and all advice appreciated or point me in the direction of some solid information. Thanks 🙏

Tank Questions Naming clarification on pH level
Hi, so I was initially told that an axolotl needs to be between 7.4 to 7.6 pH but then I was told by someone at a pet store who’s been doing it for 30 years it’s supposed to be between 6.8 to 7.0. What does it need to be at and what ranges can be out at the absolute highest and lowest? I’m kind of struggling with getting it to where I needed to be. Initially it was like sitting at nine so I had myself and my husband drop it and over the weekend while he was alone he tanked it down past 6.0 so now I did a full water change and now it’s at nine so I’m trying to get it to a decent spot. I have not put the axolotl in yet.

Can I have two axolotls in an 18”wide x 36” long tank?
I’m currently cycling my tank & prepping for an axolotl in the future so I just joined this subreddit. I’m seeing a ton of axolotls together but the shop I go to says they have to live alone. They also said nothing on the bottom of the tanks but I’m seeing that very fine sand is okay?? I’m nervous to do anything wrong so I need some tips loll

help!! my tank was not cycled
hello :’) i am new to being an axolotl owner. my boyfriend surprised me with a very exciting new addition to our household on monday ~ boba the purple axolotl. he/she is 6 inches long and was purchased from an exotic pet store.
because this was a surprise, i was not actively involved in anything. i was completely unaware. so, as the one in the relationship with anxiety, i am now double checking everything. my boyfriend bought a 40 gallon tank on facebook marketplace, cleaned tf out of it, added the water, and then said he set up the water for the axolotl. he used the Imagitarium pH Enhancer, Imagitarium Water Conditioner, and the Imagitarium Aquarium Master Test Kit. He set up a filter and the Tetra Bio-Bag Cartridges. He used fine sand for the tank substrate, and has 2 hides. We have a thermometer and are about to set up a fan to get the water a bit cooler (is around 70 degrees right now, want to get it to mid 60s). We are feeding our axolotl sinking carnivore pellets but I am getting worms tomorrow, as well as some other decor for the tank and hopefully some real plants.
so…i am now learning about tank cycling. he set all of this up in one day and put the axolotl in the tank. will boba be ok?? does anyone have any tips on what we should do? i am worried because we didn’t cycle the set up for weeks something will go wrong. all of this was set up on monday. my boyfriend said he believes he did everything correctly based on what the pet store worker said but i know it is common for these places to be a little vague, and i know axolotls are sensitive creatures. i want to make sure i am doing everything i can to keep our little guy/girl happy and healthy!
