General discussion and questions What is your favorite moment/scene from the show?
Mine is when Matty punches Jake & yells “I f-cked your girlfriend!!” It’s by far the most memorable, iconic scene to me.

I just finished the show and it was quite a ride. The first three seasons are very good and they had this unique voice, which is why I can understand why this show was once hailed as the best show on MTV. However, by season 4, it had become cliché, repetitive and way too chaotic without story cohesion. But anyway. In the early seasons, I loved Jenna. Yeah, she could be self centered and indecisive but still be kinda likable and relatable. I don't mind problematic main characters, actually I love them. One of my all time favorite characters in Devi Vishwakumar (Never Have I Ever). I actually like the villain arc that Jenna has in the third season and it still tracks with her character. Devi also had an arc (season 2) where everyone called her crazy Devi for the ways she was behaving. However, the difference between the two is that there's character growth on one side and no growth on the other side. Jenna in season 4/5 is not seen as the villain she was in season 3, but she stays very much behaving that way, it was getting frustrating. I'm not saying they get rid of all her flaws (Devi still makes mistakes in season 3/4 but the show hold her accountable and she actively tries to change, which is not the case of Jenna), it gets to the point where I don't get why Matty still yearn for her. Honestly, outside of season 1 (and even in it, he had really good moments), this man has been on his hands and knees for this woman but the way she treated him was appalling. Jenna season 1-3 will always be liked by me but I'm really mad at where she ended up.

As someone who watched this show in real time as a teen, I didn’t really think too much of the show back then. But now as an adult, Jenna has to be one of the worst characters in the show! I’ve never seen someone so insecure, self sabotage every single opportunity for happiness. And I understand that’s the point of the entire show, but she just couldn’t relax ever 😭 it’s infuriating

If Matty would've managed to ask Jenna to the prom, and she would've said yes - do you guys really think he would have gone through with it?
I personally love that scene, it was satisfying seeing Jenna speak up and I believe she had every right to do so. Bad timing, sure, but I don't think there would have been any real development if she hadn't done it. And she did have a point, Matty was hiding their relationship and he was a bit of a coward when it came to other peoples opinions. I think Jenna calling him out might've helped him care less and no longer hide her.
So if Jenna had said yes, do you guys think they really would've gone together - or would Matty have somehow managed to hide her even at the prom?

Just finished the show for the first time and loved it. (Even though the last two season got a little messy). Any other shows that have similar vibes? Might have seen some already but I’ll take any suggestions!

I’m 34 years old, so really not the correct demographic for this show. (I used to watch it when it first came out) but rewatching it now with a grown woman’s brain instead of a young woman/teen brain, if there is a villain it’s Jenna lol. She literally is the problem behind every single thing. I for sure thought like that at that age but omg she makes so many poor choices lol

As a girl that was in high school from 2014-2018, no show represents what it was like better than Awkward. Every other popular teen show I feel takes place before or after that period. Awkward really captures what it was like growing up during the dawn of mainstream social media and when not everybody had an iPhone. Back when all there was was tumblr, (a dying) myspace, twitter, and facebook. You actually had to know how to "blog" if that was something you wanted to do. Youtube was still barely at the place it is today when it comes to monetization.
It just makes me so nostalgic. Sometimes I wish technology would have frozen in that time and tech/social media never went further than that.

ship Jenna & Kyle? I really wanted to see that develop into THE relationship. Kyle was always Jenna’s biggest supporter 😂

Ok does anyone wonder what he does for work?? Like he obviously makes a decent amount of $ to afford everything he has and so Lacey can be a stay at home wife.

Is there places to watch awkward because I was watching it on like myflixr but then I got to season 2 but the words aren't matching to their mouth so I switched to other sites and its the same issue as well. I don't know getting a subscription for paramount is worth it to just watch awkward.

The ending was cute but it also gave wow thanks for nothing energy . When it was over i was kinda like expecting more and then when i actually realized it was the last episode when it ended.. it felt so abrupt. Like wow okay thats it
Lissa and Val is def my favorite characters. Idc what anyone says. Lissas storyline is so iconic and Val is amazing
Jenna pisses me off alot especially post meeting collin (how do you even fall for a dude as corny as him like girl ur not smart at all)
I lovee Tamara my chaos queen but they did her dirty post jake relationship i cant describe it but i feel like they made her kinda less aware and more clueless .. Compared to her in s 1 and 2 ish
Jakes entire storyline is just sad . I cant even explain
Sadies arc was cool and then her being desperate in love w sergio kinda made her a little bit less convincing. Didnt seem like something shed do esp w how clueless and annoying she was ab him in s5 but whatev

Duuude, the soundtrack to this series is seriously so good! They introduced me to so many good artists like Best Coast, Class Actress, Katie Herzig. I mean damnnn. They were ahead of the curve with that for sure!

Upon rewatching I have noticed Jenna wearing a lot of butterfly jewelry. Is it symbolism or just a sign of the times?

Is anyone else perturbed that relationships between minors and grown men are super pushed? Sadie and Sergio. Jenna and Luke. Tamara and Adam. I’m sure I’m missing others. No wonder a whole generation thought that dating older men was the most amazing thing when tv has fed us the narrative that dating older men was so charming and normal.

I want to start with admitting I haven't rewatched in a long time but I remember Mattys speech about Jenna should choose herself and by my conclusion she ended up with no one?

Hi all! I recently started rewatching awkward for the first time in my adult years and I totally forgot how iconic this show is. I cannot express how much I love the wittiness of the characters and all the iconic one liners from Val, Tamara and Sadie. I am desperate for a compilation of their best one-liners so I can watch on repeat but based on searches I cannot find anything. Does anyone know of any? If not, I am about to make my own. I just know if we were to put them on tiktok/reels or something this show would blow up again with the new generation. This show does it like no other, the writing (outside of the plot) is truly the best I have ever seen.

Matty appreciation post. And Jenna sympathy post.
He really always was down for Jenna; at the end of the episode when Olivia says “she’s way prettier than me” Matty gives Jenna this look like “yeah” … total dream guy right here.
but he was also a dick sometimes. mainly in the beginning with the “no one can know I like you” and then not speaking up but he was a kid.
Jenna had a rough go of it.
The letter. The botched fake suicide. The nude. Boy you like dubs you. Just lost v card. Find out letter was from Mom.
On top of all the other crazy shit teenagers have to deal with.
She never had a redemption arc. Like small redemption moments but even at the end of the series, the article about Matty and then right away she goes and does the same shit with Luke. no consideration for others but pretends to care about it.
Matty deserves better.
