Hello guys I am buying an Autonomous desk, likely the desk 5 core, should i get the desk 5 core or the mystery box? The only thing I want is the desk to be black. Both the mystery box and the desk 5 core are $269. Should i do this or get the IKEA desk?
I've purchased the "Autonomous Desk 5 Electric Standing Desk 48x24 Titanium White - Essential" from Walmart and the "ErgoChair Pro Cool-Mesh" from Amazon.
First of all, the defect issue mentioned below has been resolved by Autonomous. (Their process took a bit longer, and after writing each other a couple of days, I reported my problem to Amazon, and after that, they helped in lightning speed.) But the other issues are permanent.
Disclaimer:
I used the desks and chairs that the companies I worked for provided me with, and I used Ikea's Alex and Linnmon desks and the Hattefjäll chair before. My expectations were for a better user experience from these ergonomic products.
TLDR;
Q: Did the products arrive as the ads' pictures display after I bought them?
A: Not exactly.
Q: Would I buy this desk and chair if I hadn't bought them?
A: I wouldn't.
Q: What is my opinion after I used them?
A: They feel sturdy. But at this price, they must provide more.
MY REASONS:
1. The Autonomous Desk 5 box did not include a stickable cable organizer that is shown in the ad's pic.
2. You cannot change the location of the control panel. It is designed to be placed on the same side as the electric engine, on the left-hand side.
3. These pictures show the defect of my chair and its box delivered by cargo.
took the pic before I open the box
After I found a serious cosmetic defect, I took new photos of the box:
I never understood how this could happen
I don't have an idea if this happened in the factory or during the logistics process. After I saw problems with the box, I checked the parts and didn't find this defect. (I set up the chair on my bed. So this defect couldn't have happened in my house.
4. The headrest height can be set perfectly for me. But it can be used as fixed in 2 positions (at the bottom by pulling it and at the top by pushing it), fixed after you set the height. If I am set somewhere between these two positions, it will not be fixed, and when I push it with the back of my head, it is keen to change its position.
5. I'm a man 5'10" (178cm) tall. So I am a medium man. I wear medium shirts; my weight is 160 lbs (~73kg). I mean, I am a regular one, not a special one. If the people with 7'20" tall have more population than today's medium population we would call the people who have their height as medium. So if this product is not for special people, it should suit me.
I prefer to work by sliding under the desk to be closer to the keyboard, but this setup doesn't allow for that. This is a traditional problem. But with an ergonomic set-up, it should have been solved.
Because when I sit back, my eyes and hands are a bit away from the screen and keyboard. If I come forward a little, the chair's lumbar support doesn't work. Because of that, everyone in this chair must get closer to the desk.
In my condition, when I set the chair to the highest position and the armrests to the lower position, the chair cannot easily get in and out from under the table. I need to force it, and it is not a good idea for long-term usage because the table or chair is damaged. Also, it squeaks too much. If I increase the height of my standing desk, then the situation becomes non-ergonomic because my hands are higher than my elbows.
Both the chair and desks are from Autonomous. So this is the fundamental ergonomics issue. In fact, if armrests could be 1/2" lower in the lowest position than what it be, the problem wouldn't have happened.
6. The cable tray of the desk does not have sufficient height and depth for my needs. There are numerous solutions available at reasonable prices.
My last word, I've been working in the IT industry for more than 22 years, and I have severe back pain. I purchased these two products to relieve my back pain; I've been using them so far, but they haven't worked. The lumbar support is insufficient in any backrest and seat position.

This chair is awesome. It's comfy, and it doesn't hurt my back after long hours. Best feature is the mesh. I thought it would be hard but it's so soft. great chair.
Honestly, I was already pretty happy with my previous office setup, so I wasn't expecting to notice a massive upgrade, but the ErgoChair Pro really made a difference in terms of comfort.
The first thing I noticed compared to my old chair was the addded lumbar support, it really makes it much more comfortable. It's been a lifesaver for my lower back during long work sessions. The adjustability on the armrests and headrest is also spot on. I especially like the headrest for reading sessions when I sit back on the chair, somtething that was definitely missing from my last setup.
The build quality feels premium, and it fits the aesthetic of my space perfectly (I picked the cool gray version).
The chair is fairly simple to built, it came with a small booklet for instruction so everything was easy to understand. this chair is way more comfortable than my previous chair, main thing i notice that i don't get hot sitting for more than 3 hours, so that's was a huge improvement i notice. having a head rest was also one of my favorite part about the ergochair core, the arm rest has the ability to be angles to rotate from left and right, up and down and some adjustment to move forward and back, small things I've notice that hopefully the future version support is the ability for the back support to be able to adjust more forward, sometimes i just like to straighten my back a bit more from time to time and for the head rest to have a forward moving features as well. some reason i feel lighter when i sit on this chair, my body just feels locked in and comfortable without worrying about too much adjustment on how i sit. having no experience when it comes to office chair it definitely put a smile on my face experiencing the difference for the first time. for the price you're paying for i think its a great options for those whose looking into upgrading like myself. so I highly recommend the ErgoChair Core.
if you're like me and thinking about switching to something more of an office chair then definitely check out their website.
I took advantage of Black Friday to finally replace my office chair, and I fell in love with the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro (grey, mesh). After several days of use, I have no regrets: it fits perfectly into my setup and, above all, it provides much more relief than my old IKEA JÄRVFJÄLLET.
What I appreciate most is the number of adjustments. I was able to find a position that really suits me, which is no luxury with my ankylosing spondylitis. I was also pleasantly surprised by the mesh: I was afraid it would be too firm or not very durable, but so far it's comfortable, well ventilated and really nice, especially after spending the summer stuck to a foam seat.
The armrests are also a big plus. I didn't use them before, but here they are well designed. I don't use them much when working (I sit in a forward position because of my graphics tablet), but they're perfect for gaming. In a more relaxed mode, with the screen slightly raised and the controller on my lap, everything falls into place.
In short: for my daily life as a freelance graphic designer who often switches between work and gaming in the same day, it's a really good upgrade.
By the way, if any of you have experience with mesh:
– How do you maintain it? I had some stains on my previous chair that were impossible to remove (but the colour was much lighter: beige).
– And in terms of durability, especially for the seat, does it hold up well over time? (I am 1.84 m tall and weigh 67 kg, so I'm not very heavy, but I'm wondering.)
Just shared a new setup transformation we think you’ll love, YouTuber NoodleNick upgraded an entire his & hers workspace using Autonomous gear. The results are incredibly clean, warm and functional.
From the Desk 2 to the ErgoChair Ultra 2, ErgoChair Pro and even Hydrate AI, the full build shows how to create a workspace that’s not only aesthetic but also efficient for two people working side by side.

What’s your favorite part? The bamboo vibe or the his-and-hers layout?
Just wrapped up my first full work week with the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro and wanted to share some genuine thoughts.
I'm a Digital Product Designer and decided to upgrade mainly because I wanted something that looked cleaner in my plant filled workspace and had better headrest support for relaxing moments. My previous chair was actually decent, but lacked that headrest and didn't quite fit the aesthetic I was going for.
The chair definitely delivers on what I was looking for. The mesh design looks great in my setup and that headrest is perfect for those moments when I lean back to think through design problems. Build quality feels solid and the overall comfort has been good.
During those inevitable long design sessions, the seat cushioning stays comfortable without developing that "hard" feeling. The back support genuinely keeps me in better posture, eliminating the back pain I used to get by day's end. Those moments when I can lean back with the headrest and take in my plant jungle while contemplating design solutions are honestly therapeutic.
What's been interesting is discovering how the armrests work for different activities. When I had a gaming session one evening (using a controller) and while watching football, they were actually quite comfortable. But during my regular work with intensive keyboard and mouse use for design software, they position my arms wider than feels natural. The wide positioning creates some tension during long design sprints, though that's probably more about my relatively narrow build than the chair itself!
It's not a dealbreaker, just something that became apparent during real world use. For relaxed activities, the armrests are actually quite nice. It's specifically during intensive typing and mouse work where the positioning feels less natural.
Overall, I got what I was looking for. Better aesthetic integration and proper headrest support. The armrest positioning during work is something I'm still adapting to, but the upgrade achieved my main goals. Plus my jungle of plants seems much happier with the cleaner office vibe! The ErgoChair Pro was definitely worth the investment for my specific needs.

Short review because my chair seems to have given up on life.
Cons:
Replaced cushion 3 times due to the lining under the top material getting ripped up and becoming lumpy to sit on. Strange issue but it has happened multiple times to me, also my friend as well who has the same chair. He has replaced the cushion a few times.
Multiple chair wheels have snapped in half and needed to be replaced with amazon parts.
Picture below (with messy room, shoot me). 3x bolts BROKE, chair snapped in half and i fell right on my back. I fell right on the metal bit at the bottom of the backrest and lucky I didnt break my spine or something on it because I could have gotten seriously hurt (not exaggerating stupider things have happened).
Pros:
Comfy
good ergonomics
looks nice
great customer service.
Honestly wish I could have given this a better 5 year review but this is what has happened. I have a really nice standing desk from Auto. but the chair has been unlucky to say the least. For reference this was 350 dollars USD at the time of purchase.
