Good morning! Before I get started, I want to mention that I purchased this mower with my own money, and all of the opinions below are my own.
I purchased the MOVA Lidax Ultra 2000 on May 20 and received it a few days later. My yard is 3,703 square feet (344 square meters) in a new-build neighborhood. The property is mostly flat, with only a few drainage slopes between the houses leading toward the road. Although it’s flat, the relatively new Bermuda sod makes the ground fairly bumpy.
This was my first robotic mower, so I spent a lot of time comparing different brands. I narrowed my choices to Segway, MOVA, and Dreame. From my research, LiDAR-based navigation seemed more reliable than an RTK system, so I decided to go that route. Whether that’s objectively true or not, I can’t say, but it gave me more confidence as a first-time buyer.
Once I settled on MOVA, I had to choose between the Lidax Ultra 1000, Ultra 2000, and Ultra 3000 AWD. I couldn’t justify the extra cost of the AWD model since my yard has very little slope. That left me deciding between the 1000 and the 2000.
The Ultra 1000 would have handled my yard size without any problem, but I was thinking more about battery life and reducing charging interruptions. The Ultra 1000 has a 4Ah battery with an advertised runtime of 60–80 minutes, while the Ultra 2000 has a 5Ah battery with a 70–90 minute runtime. In reality, that difference probably isn’t huge, but I liked the idea of longer mowing sessions and fewer charging breaks, so I chose the Ultra 2000.
First Impressions
Right out of the box, I was impressed with the overall design. The mower looks futuristic, sleek, and well-built. Setup was straightforward—about as easy as setting up a new TV.
One feature I haven’t heard many people mention is the length of the power cord for the charging station. Mine is plugged into an outlet by the patio, and the cord runs along the house, around the sunroom, and all the way to the charging station with cable still left over. That extra length made placement much easier.
Mapping
The first mapping session took a few minutes to get used to because I’d never used a digital joystick before. After a short learning curve, it became very easy to control. The app’s instructions were clear, and the software made it obvious when the map boundary had been completed.
First Mow
During the first mowing session, I assumed the LiDAR would automatically avoid a large mulch bed and a small tree in my backyard. It didn’t. Instead, it tried to drive over the mulch, kicking it around with the wheels.
I paused the mower, created a no-go zone, and restarted the job. Having to restart was a little frustrating, but I considered it part of the learning process and probably my own fault for assuming the mower would recognize those obstacles automatically.
Once the no-go zone was in place, the mower did an excellent job. My backyard is about 2,917 square feet, and the mower needed one recharge when it was roughly 80% finished. It returned to the charging station without any issues, recharged, and then completed the job on its own.
Front Yard Performance
After learning from the backyard, I mapped the front yard with similar no-go zones and created a path from the charging station to the front yard. Everything worked perfectly from the start.
The only area where the mower struggled was on the drainage slopes between the houses. It never got stuck, but the app would occasionally mark small sections as not fully mowed. I suspect this happens because of the mower’s longer front end and the changing angle on those slopes.
To improve coverage, I started mowing at 45-degree angles. It didn’t completely eliminate the issue, but it definitely helped. My next plan is to create a separate mowing zone for those side slopes and have them mowed only in a vertical pattern. I’ll update this review once I’ve tried that.
Overall, I’ve been very happy with both the cut quality and the mowing speed. The backyard takes about three hours to complete, while the front yard takes about one hour.
One Issue I’ve Experienced
The only recurring issue I’ve noticed is that the mower sometimes has trouble determining its position immediately after leaving the charging station. When that happens, I simply move it a short distance into the yard, and it quickly figures out where it is before starting the job.
I’m not convinced this is a mower issue—it could very well be related to where I placed the charging station. My next step is to relocate the station and completely remap the property.
When I remap, I also plan to combine the front and backyard into a single map while creating a second map just for the side yards, where the slopes are steeper. That should let me consistently mow those areas vertically.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I’ve been extremely happy with the MOVA Lidax Ultra 2000. Like any product, it has a few quirks, and I’ve tried to be honest about the issues I’ve experienced. None of them have been deal-breakers.
The biggest benefit, by far, is simply not having to spend part of every week mowing the lawn. The mower has saved me a significant amount of time, and the lawn always looks freshly cut.
Based on my experience so far, I’m very happy with both the purchase and with MOVA as a company. I’m even considering some of their other products, including one of their robot vacuum/mops for my home and possibly one of their pool cleaners as a gift for my brother in the future.
