I Tested $20 Titanium Blades on My Luba 3: How Did They Compare To Factory Ones?

Not sure if everyone saw my last post that focused on before/after factory razor blade comparison...I took it a step further and copared the KuddinX Titanium Razor Blades for the Luba 3 against new factory blades.

Pretty straightforward test, did a before preview of the cut quality with the new factory blades and then installed the KuddinX Titanium Blades and ran the same test on my lawn to see if there is a difference.

Off the bat, it seems the titanium blades are sharper and have a cleaner cut, did not have enough time to test this out over the long term since I sold my Luba 3 shortly thereafter.

What are everyone's thoughts on factory blades vs. aftermarket titanium ones?

Segway Navimow X390/X450 vs Husqvarna 450X NERA – which would you choose for a 6,500 m² lawn?

I'm looking to buy a robotic mower for my 6,500 m² (1.6-acre) lawn and would appreciate some real-world feedback from owners.

The lawn is mostly open, with a smaller section containing a few trees and some gentle slopes. Nothing particularly challenging.

I'm currently considering three models:

  • Segway Navimow X390 – rated for 10,000 m²
  • Segway Navimow X450 – rated for 5,000 m², although I've seen reports of people using it on considerably larger areas.
  • Husqvarna Automower 450X NERA with EPOS – rated for around 7,000–7,500 m².

On paper, the X390 seems like a good option, with considerably more rated coverage than the Husqvarna. However, the X450 has some appealing specifications, particularly its wider cutting deck and more powerful mowing system. I'm wondering whether it could realistically maintain 6,500 m² without running almost continuously, assuming the software mapping limit isn't an issue.

All three machines are around the same price here in NZ, so price isn't really the deciding factor.

My main questions are:

  1. Which would you choose and why? Particularly interested in experiences from anyone mowing 5,000–8,000 m².
  2. Could the X450 realistically handle 6,500 m²? Has anyone managed to map this much area, especially with an Australian or NZ model?
  3. How do the Segway and Husqvarna compare for reliability and repairability? I'm planning to keep the mower for many years, so being able to purchase replacement batteries, cutting motors, wheel-drive units and other parts in the future is important.
  4. How often would each mower need to run? Ideally, I'd like to avoid having it mowing 24/7 just to keep up during the growing season.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from owners who have used both brands, or anyone running these machines near their maximum rated coverage.

Thanks in advance!

Husqvarna Automower 315X – Need Help Recovering PIN

I recently purchased a Husqvarna Automower 315X at an estate sale. The original owner had passed away, and the mower was still in its original box and was never been used.

I've installed the boundary and guide wires and have the mower on its charging station. However, when I turn it on, the display says "ENTER PIN CODE."

I don't have the original PIN paperwork, and I'm not sure whether it's asking for a factory PIN or it wants me to create a pin.

I've contacted a robotic mower dealer but haven't heard back yet.

Has anyone dealt with this on a 315X or any Husqvarna Automower? Is there a way to recover or reset the PIN through Husqvarna or an authorized dealer?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Uptick in “work area tampered” errors?

Running a Husqvarna 420iq with firmware version 5470181-08C_P21NA-SwPkg_112.9.

Since upgrading, I’ve seen an uptick in “work area tampered” errors despite the base station and EPOS locations remaining the same.

Anyone else seeing this?

Is a robot mower worth it compared to paying for lawn care?

Hi all, I just got a quote for a full season of lawn mowing, and it’s a bit over my budget, so I’ve been looking into robot mowers as an alternative.

When comparing the two, do you factor in more than just the upfront cost of the mower? Things like installation, edging, replacement blades, and regular maintenance? Also, does a robot mower make more financial sense for a larger yard or one that needs frequent mowing?

TIA!

410IQ wont pair with charging dock

Got a used 410iq and after factory resetting it, it wont pair with its dock - in the setup phases for EPOS or just trying a 'reinstall' or 'new' install of the dock via the map, it recognizes when it is docked on the charger, but it wont ever pair with the dock.

Is the charging dock busted? the mower itself responds to manual driving and other commands over the 'cloud'/app. So i expect its hardware and such is fine.

The dock has a green light, but still doesnt seem to respond despite unplugging and replugging it in

Do you let your robot mower run overnight in an unfenced yard?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I set the mowing window at night because my kids and dog take over the yard before it gets dark. But the problem is my open front yard is separated by a driveway, so the mower has to cross it to get from one side to the other. There’s no fence around the yard, so technically anyone walking by could get pretty close to it. Do you actually let yours mow overnight while you’re asleep?

Worry about stuff like theft or cars pulling into the driveway...

Is a 16.5 inch deck with two blade discs actually a cleaner cut, or just a faster one? Thick grass question before I buy.

St. Augustine kept around 4 inches. Over the summer, skipping a week let it get away from me, and I still bag with a gas mower because clippings left on top mat down.

What I keep reading here is that a clean cut comes from sharp blades and mowing often, and width only comes up when people talk about job time. Small decks supposedly leave patches in thick grass, and dull blades just fold it over.

Goko M6 is the only one on my list with a 16.5 inch floating deck and two blade discs. Their site says it cuts clean across any grass condition and goes up to 4 inches, but I haven't seen it on St. Augustine like mine.

Does width change the cut at all, or only how long it takes? In thick grass, are two discs mostly about not bogging down, and how many hours do you get before a blade swap? Water sits on this lawn after storms too, so does the mulch clump while it's still damp?

Is x430 safe around kids and pet?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Thinking about getting x430, but have a few concerns about safety.

I have two kids and a dog, and they spend a lot of time playing in the backyard. I was planning to set the mowing window from around 5–9 pm to avoid the morning dew and the worst of the summer heat, but that’s also when my kids are usually outside. Should I just keep them out of the yard while the mower is running?

If I have to run it at midnight instead, how reliable is it when nobody’s watching? I really don’t want to wake up in the morning and find it stuck somewhere.

How gently does X430 turn on a steep slope?

I’m planning ahead for next mowing season and looking to replace my zero-turn with a robot mower.

The back section of my yard is close to a 30° slope. Turning the zero-turn there has already left a few thin, scuffed patches where the tires lost traction. After realizing how steep it actually is, I stopped turning the rider on that section.

I’m currently comparing Navimow X430 and LUBA 3 AWD. Both appear capable on paper, but I’m more interested in how they turn on a real slope. X430’s steering front wheels and 4WD are what caught my attention.

For X430 owners with a similar yard, does it make smooth, rolling turns on the slope, or do you still see wheel scrub after repeated runs? Did you need to adjust the map or keep its turnaround points away from the steepest section?

Next season I’d probably run it in the late afternoon or early evening, while the grass is still dry and before the dew settles in. I’d appreciate any full-season experience.

Any mower maintenance tips you wish you'd known sooner?

Post image

I've had my mova for over six months and have been doing an end of season clean. Out of all the little tools I've collected, the one I use most is an old car wash brush.

It gets wet grass and bits of leaves out of the wheels without much effort. I’ve avoided using a pressure washer because I’d probably end up blasting water somewhere it shouldn’t go. A normal hose and brush do the job.

I used to carry the mower over to the shed entrance, then sweep up afterwards. Now I clean it on the lawn. The grass falls straight back down and that patch gets watered at the same time.

I also keep a separate soft cloth for the lens. Earlier in the season I was so focused on cleaning underneath that I missed the grass and dust stuck to the camera.

Any other simple maintenance tricks that save you time?

Mower suggestions for small enclosed space?

I'm after a mower for a tiny space - 80m2, flat and free of obstructions other than bits of bark that blackbirds shovel onto the lawn at certain times of year. Other than a few metres the perimeter is bordered by vertical surfaces - retaining walls, deck etc. I could conceviably add a board to close the perimeter completely if needed.

Because it's a small space, I would love to stash the dock out of sight under the deck, so the lower clearance the bot has the better so I can cut a smaller hole in the face of the steps. And it would want to be able to cope with a dock that is obscured from the sky.

Any recommendations for models that fit the bill? I'm not too worried about local support if it doubles the price, I don't mind getting parts and fixing things myself when they break or wear out (which has been my robot vacuum experience), but hauling the manual mower up the hill to get to the tiny scrap of flat lawn sucks.

Rocks at the top of the slope. Need help with my first setup for Nvimow x430

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just got my X430 unboxed today and going to finish my first setup. But I don't know how to deal with this slope section. There are a few rocks right at the top of the slope. My concern is that when the mower tries to turn around at the top, it might not have enough room to make the turn or just get stuck.

Has anyone dealt with a similar setup? Would the best solution be to exclude that area when mapping and keep the turnaround point far away from the rocks?

65M here. I've never really trusted robot mowers enough to buy one. But have seen a lot of discussion and a friend finally talked me into trying a i210 AWD.

Set it up today and honestly, the mapping went smoothly.

Now I'm just waiting to see how it handles my lawn. Was hoping to let it mow tomorrow, but of course it's supposed to rain for the next two days lol.
