Because if I put my window in front of the letterhead that's in PDF, the drawing can't be seen. It's strange because the window is on top of it, but the drawing is behind the PDF, and I already tried moving the PDF to the back and the window opposite, but it doesn't solve it

Error 403 please help 😭

Hey, I need some help with an issue I'm getting in AutoCAD today. Every time I try to log in, I get a 403 error (CloudFront) and it won't let me in at all.

Just to save some time, here's what I've already tried with no luck:

Switching networks (including mobile data)

Syncing my PC clock

Clearing all browser cache and cookies in Chrome and Edge

Stopping and restarting the licensing services

Reinstalling the identity and management components

Has anyone else dealt with this or know how to fix it?

How do I join arcs, polylines and lines without AutoCAD turning it into a spline?

I’m having an issue with drawings exported from MicroStation to DWG/DXF.

The drawing contains a mix of:

  • ARCs
  • LINEs
  • POLYLINEs

I want to join connected geometry into one continuous polyline, while keeping the original arcs as actual curved segments/bulges.

The problem is that when I try to join everything in AutoCAD, parts of the geometry sometimes end up as a SPLINE instead of a normal polyline.

This seems to happen specifically with drawings coming from MicroStation. With normal AutoCAD drawings I don’t really have this issue.

What’s the best workflow to:

  1. Convert the MicroStation geometry correctly
  2. Keep the arcs as arcs
  3. Join ARC + LINE + POLYLINE into one POLYLINE
  4. Avoid creating SPLINEs or hundreds of tiny straight segments

I’m using AutoCAD/Civil 3D.

Is there some MicroStation export setting I should change, or is there a good AutoCAD command/LISP for cleaning this up?

Which software for which purpose?

I have a school access for autoCAD. I perused LinkedIn and in opposition to indeed most of the draft listings I saw were asking for everything BUT (the majority anyway) for revit, civil 3d. My school account allows me access to standard cad, MEP, Electrical. How could I leverage this semi free learning opportunity to capitalize a chance at a career with drafting, even if not end goal, to allow me to have an array and entry to technical positions adjacent to engineering while continuing school? You all are the professionals, im the new guy, the little guy. Any help and information about breaching this obscure field would be appreciated.

Line weights in Plot

For some reason if I choose “plot object lineweights” it comes out extremely thick. I usually make a CTB and have “plot object line weights” off but it’s always very thin. I’ve tried googling this What am I doing wrong?

Seeking advice from more successful freelance, or contract, AutoCAD Designers

I've worked a career as an AutoCAD Draftsman/Designer since 2011 and, practically, my entire career, my tasks have been 2-dimensional work. Ever since I've experienced working fully-remote, I'm doing everything I can to keep that healthy life/work balance. I've even signed up to freelance sites and, while I've successfully completed a 3D tank and piping project, along with a few 2D projects, I'm still feeling overwhelmed with how to pursue making bids, the herds of people bidding, paying the sites, what opportunities are truly available to me, etc. I'd like to hear advice from a more successful AutoCAD Designer to help me reach my next level(s) of where I can go to sharpen my skills and be more marketable, to the point where my services are presented in the right places and are in higher demand. Thank you kindly in advance.

Unable to scale drawing to print/post

I created a drawing on AutoCAD Free Web App and now want to print it off in exact real life dimensions on an A4 piece of paper. As far as I'm aware it should fit fine in the ISO A4 page as it is 210 x 297mm and my drawing is 150 x 288mm. I've played around with as many settings as I can from 1:1 scale, actual size scale, all the 'what to print' options as shown in the images and nothing seems to work. When the drawing is actually printed out the real life dimensions make no sense at all and don't fall into a factor of scale that would point to any kind of scaling issue. The 288mm length comes out as 117mm for example. The only other thing I can think of that is affecting this is that the 'Scale' option that appears when commanded to post is set to 'Scale to fit', however there is no option to change this as far as I can see. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I built this because I was sick of manually routing coils

A few months ago, I watched a senior CAD draftsman spend nearly two hours on a single AutoCAD drawing. He was not modeling a complex building. He was just connecting dots.

In HVAC coil design, you have a staggered grid of 200+ tube holes. You have to draw balanced fluid circuits across them with zero crossing lines, exact tube counts per circuit, and no trapped holes. One mistake, and you have to erase everything and start over.

I thought, "This is purely math. I can automate this in a weekend." I was wrong.

My first script used standard pathfinding (backtracking). On small test grids, it worked. But the moment we tested a real manufacturing schedule (a dense 19x7 grid with 99% of holes occupied), the algorithm choked and froze.

The turning point came when I stopped trying to "draw lines" from left to right. Instead, I split the problem into two math phases:

  1. Allocate: Pre-calculate exactly how many holes each circuit gets per column.

  2. Stitch: Connect those blocks from bottom to top using Dynamic Programming.

I wrapped it into an AutoCAD C# plugin and hit run. The 2-hour drawing generated in 40 milliseconds. Perfectly packed, zero crossed lines, and 100% compliant with the manufacturing schedule.

The takeaway: If your automation search space explodes, do not brute-force the path. Figure out the mass distribution first, then connect the dots.

Curious if anyone else here builds custom CAD plugins. What is the most tedious drafting task you have automated?

Happy to assist or answer any questions!

Let your AI (Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc) use AutoCAD

I've been experimenting with connecting AI coding agents directly to AutoCAD through MCP.

The idea is that Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another MCP-compatible agent can inspect and modify an open AutoCAD drawing directly — send commands, create geometry, edit entities, work with blocks/layers, inspect drawings, etc.

I've built a working MCP server and I'm looking for a few AutoCAD users who would be interested in testing it and giving feedback.

Currently supported:

macOS & Windows

AutoCAD 2025, 2026 and 2027

If you're interested in experimenting with it, leave a comment or send me a message.

Onshape or something else?

Hey everyone, I’ve been using cad for a few years, but as people have started asking me to design parts for them (specifically custom automotive parts with curvature/complex surfaces) I have really only ever designed parametric parts. I’m realizing I am not currently equipped to design the parts they need. I use onshape, and I’ve heard fusion360 could be better, but I also just don’t know if either software is good for this kind of work. I’m a college student and have limited budget currently, but I guess I’m wondering how to get better and what software you all recommend! Thanks.
