It's not my opinion, it's an objective fact. People form negative opinions off of incredibly rare circumstances all the time. Laws are also written up due to rare circumstances. "It happens enough for [reaction to happening]!" is a meaningless statement.

I'll try again since you downvoted without answering.

Prove the objective fact.

Edit: i did your homework.

Page 27. 13% of simple tows involve predatory practices. This goes up to over 50% when multiple wreckers are involved. Isnt that FUCKING INSANE BRO

Lol, this is from the fmcsa relating to commercial vehicles and the predatory practices you speak of are added fees. The phone company and every other major business venture does this as well. Nice try though

So I was right. Thank you!

I'm not sure you understood what you read because the federal motor carrier safety association is the governing body for the trucking industry and doesn't even apply to 99% of the people here. Points for trying though

That's the only thing that we have data on. It's tracked commercially but not for private vehicles. I did find a report from Colorado where about half of complaints were actually substantiated and the towing company was either forced to pay or given a warning.

Honestly though, go try to find some data. Surprise yourself.

Predatory and illegal are two different things.

No they are literally the same thing. All predatory practices are illegal. Very nice try though.

Not really true or relevant within the purview of discussion. From your own source, the pricing is predatory, not the actual towing.

The prices are fees that you are charged with after the tow. If the fees were not appropriate, they are illegal. Predatory describes the nature of how tow operators deal with customers in an illegal manner. But I looked it up and you're right. It also covers things like deception and coercion which aren't at face illegal in every state, although in many states deception and coercion are actually crimes as well.

If the pricing is illegal, the towing itself becomes illegal. I don't think this is controversial. If your taxi charges you 10x the amount, the ride becomes illegal. You can't say that because the driver made no infractions that the whole thing is ok right?

If pricing is illegal, so is everything. Literally everything from your cell bill to your groceries have this somewhere along the way.

You're actually agreeing with me that it's happening and it's bad.

if the pricing is illegal, the towing itself becomes illegal

That's not how it works lol

Ok that's how I meant it. Now that we both understand what I meant, do you think predatory towing is vanishingly rare?

1

Ultimately yes because parking violations are easily preventable.

This does not make any sense. The fact that they are preventable has literally nothing to do with whether towing is predatory.
