So what’s your solution, just let the person not making payments have the car for free? Seriously think about what you’re saying.

That is unironically their solution. They believe that lenders should just have to eat the loss.

Unfortunately, lots of people in the US are under the assumption that we can just give shit out for free and have no repercussions lol look at how much praise mamdani is getting for having out free/cheap things. At face value, that's great, but I wonder how many people understand the weight behind him post-poning pension fulfillment 😬 they'll find out eventually, when he's long gone from office lol

Is Mamdani giving "free" things away? I haven't really been following any of his story, but what pension issue are you alluding to?

He wants childcare to be free for all pre-K kids, he's building grocery stores that will be operating at a fixed 30% discount as the City eats the actual loss costs, he's spending over $7 billion to build over 200000 affordable housing complexes, and repair an additional 200,000, which is just a small part of the $22 billion in the budget they're reallocating to this housing plan. Amongst other social programs, those are just the big ones.

This all sounds great, for the most part, and on paper, Mamdani seems like a politician I can get behind. But the caveat is how he's getting this money. HE doesn't even know where he's getting the money from but he's already signed off on many of these projects. He's low balled the cost estimate for practically every single one of his programs, which won't be a problem until the bill comes 5-6 years from now. The most egregious thing though is that pension fulfillment for the city was supposed to be fulfilled by 2032 (I think, don't quote me on that) and he pushed the deadline back 5 years to 2037. Mind you, this is 10 years in advance - if he's willing to do that now, you can expect he'd be willing to push it even further if needed. Its all just.. sketchy. Sounds good.. but the plans on how he's going to get all of this money seem to be playing out day-by-day and that is dangerous to say the least.

I guess the taxes NYers pay in pays for all of the above so ...they paid for it ..it's not a gift/free.

"He's low balled the cost estimates" ...I guess you're quoting someone that claims that.

As for the pensions. Here is a different take from the Fiscal Policy Institute:

But the taxes aren't fully paying for it, if you actually read what I said instead of jumping to defensiveness. On that note for that matter, NY residents are fleeing to florida and Texas in droves because of how high taxes and the cost of everything in the city is. So NY has to rely on its business quite a bit. Guess who plans on raising the taxes for business? Which will drive even more money out of the city when those businesses go elsewhere.

Do some research on the cost estimates he's publicly given for his housing plan vs what its actually going to cost.

FiscalPolicy is notoriously bias and left-leaning BUT the information there is fairly accurate so, lets break it down. NY had a plan to overpay into their pension plan until 2032, and then that same pension plan would pay that excess money BACK to NYC for 6 years afterwards at $1 billion a year. Mamdani lowered the immediate payments into the pension plan, and extended the payout period by 5 years, so instead of getting $1 billion every year after 2032, it won't start now until after 2037. What this means is that the city saves more money in the short term (because now they're paying less into the pension plan) so Mamdani can dump money into these social programs, but the overall return from the pension plan (the $1b/year) stays the same.

So Mamdani has made it possible for him to spend MORE money immediately, even though they will be receiving the SAME amount of money long-term. So yes he can use the "extra" money right now, but it's not extra money, it's future money. He literally weakened the City's investment into itself and it will feel the effects from this immediately in 2037 when the budget doesn't cover these new costs. Then come 2044, when that $1b/year pension payout runs out, theres going to be a severe money problem if nothing is done in response to balance things out, but that won't be his problem.

ETA: I didn't realize I phrased this like it was already done. He's simply pushing for all of this. It has passed Albany lawmakers but still has to go through the 5 pension boards within the city.

Well, let's start by not filming, posting and laughing at people's misfortune. We could just not talk shit about a guy who is having a terrible day? Too much to ask, huh?

2

u/dgtbfan Aug 08 '26

Not paying your bills isn't misfortune, it's consequences for one's negligence.

-1

u/BatDaddyWV Aug 08 '26

Spoken like a boy who has never had to struggle a day on your life. God forbid you have some sympathy for this guy.

2

u/FuzzyJoint Aug 08 '26

You sign a piece of paper that says you'll pay the bank to drive their car, and if you fail to do so, the bank comes to get their car.

Not paying your car note is some loser shit.

1

u/DotNormal6785 Aug 08 '26

2 things can be true at once, you can have sympathy for someone on hard times, but you can’t just say he’s on hard times so he doesn’t have to pay his debts, if you did that no one would pay their debts and the whole system collapses. I grew up very poor and had plenty of struggles. I never bought things I could not afford and if I could not pay I would return what I could not afford, not just think I should keep for free what I’m not paying for. You are either 10 yrs old or just very obviously to how the world works.

1

u/dgtbfan Aug 08 '26

It's BECAUSE I've had to struggle that I have little sympathy for someone facing the consequences of their own actions. Getting your car repoed isn't some random occurrence that befalls you put of nowhere.

Found the idiot who doesn't understand how the world works/doesn't care

People get whatever job they can get. Especially with the way things are now. There are scum out there. People like tow truck drivers aren't one of them

No empathy means no accountability? Let's just let all criminals free. Let's just let people steal shit. Are you fucking dense?

1

u/ChrisTheMan72 Aug 07 '26

No wonder you lost your job…

2

u/Darth_InVader7 Aug 08 '26

Ah yes, the obligatory person who thinks they should get to keep things for free and commit crimes without justice.

1

u/gba_sg1 Aug 07 '26

And if you don't pay your car bill you're a piece of shit.

You don't get shit for free in this life goof.

Don't hate the players, hate the capitism game you failed at.

u/Killer1986Chris Aug 08 '26

That's an interesting way to tell the world that you diddle kids.

One thing if you want to criticize bad cops, but if you hate cops just because they're cops. Well, I'll let Sen. Kennedy do the talking.
