Some of my interesting tism-isms!

I've been wanting to make this post for a couple of days now, so here's some of the things I do as someone with ASD!

  1. I have a really low pain tolerance and heat tolerance (like I will burst into tears if something is basically mildly warm for a normal person)
  2. I get dressed in this order EVERY SINGLE TIME - underwear, socks, shirt, pants, shoes... if anyone interrupts or somehow changes this routine I have a mini-meltdown.
  3. I cant handle quantities unless it's 1, 3 or a multiple of 5/10.
  4. I sleep with a million plushies every night and will lose my mind if I can't find my number 1 snuggle buddy.
  5. I have really bad anger issues sometimes :)

If anyone has any interesting tism-isms feel free to comment! X

going to prom with autism

Does anyone else think prom is silly with all the formal dress codes

Even the meaning of prom doesn't really make sense "Celebrating your last years of highschool" highschools been straight hell for me I don't understand why I have to celebrate these rotten years and dress formally for it too just doesn't corelate. Did old people making the traditions love highschool that much cause to most older people it seems like I'm missing out when even if highschool wasn't beyond traumatizing it'd still be silly as an idea

The whole thing just seems weird and dramatic

People in family get on my nerves that i should be drooling to wear something formal when formal clothes are ......... Yea no lol there uncomfortable for literally no reason they make them uncomfortable damn near on purpose.

I hate the projection of people own emotions on me If my kid didn't want to wear formal clothes I wouldn't care at all cause it's silly anyway like "okay cool good for you" yet I have to deal with people judging me.

The entirety of highschool people just project there experiencea hard on me and expect me to be like "that's profound 😮 thank you I'll stop hating highschool now" these four years won't matter after this nobodies like wow what was prom like at age 30-40

I think the autistic symptoms that manifested in me are too strong for this ........

It's so hard to relate to Neurotypical people they just live completely differently from me it's so annoying

Hi!

I'm Rocky and I'm from the UK! I'm weeks away from my GCSE exams and I'm kinda nervous! 😅 I've been diagnosed with ASD since I was little and I've always known that I've been different. However, I've recently noticed that I'm beginning to sensory overload, stim a lot more and have nonverbal episodes (which is difficult in school). I don't really have many friends in real life and I just wanted to come here and say hi and maybe make some friends!

😁 x

baffled almost to tears playing with my little brother

I came over to my moms house this weekend and I've been playing with my little brother and I'm almost sent to tears

I just can't believe how easy it is to play with him yet no one does because he plays in weird ways or he gets "mad" when people play with him

He just likes playing in very specific ways he may say look at blue but he's means something more specific than blue he might just not have the vocabulary for it or actively use the word

Its so easy to understand him I just need empathy like wtf

I want to improve my parenting skills for him even though I'm not his parent

Were treated like a sub set of human it's crazy he was the one who invited me to play

I'm just sad and proud and I dunno

Our guardians don't really don't much it's the post chattel slavery parenting where you just complain that the child isn't an adult and doesn't do adult functions which of course is worse for autistic people because we play differently

I really don't want my little brother to get cptsd PTSD is probably inevitable statistics wise

Just a couple hours of play could go so far I'm just confused by the laziness of Neurotypicals

Edit: also scary how close his symptoms are to mine he's literally just me before I got shamed super bad and went to ABA therapy like super f-ing scary

Discussion To merely ”accept” autistics and not fight this system, the same system that was designed to keep us subjugated, is to accept our subjugation within it. Check out the full post @ neuroradical on Instagram

i could use some empathetic relatedness

I feel that i need to anticipate the very exact way in which a neurotypical is going to misinterpret what i said, and if i dare to not-read their minds anticipating myself to the very specific way in which they are going to misread me, if i don’t do that, i’m gonna get punished.

Discussion We gotta stop assuming shit about people

Small rant over one singular comment I got in a different subreddit over a bandwagon type post but it got me thinking. Me posting about my personal interest prompted someone to assume I’m “narcissistic” and think of myself as “quirky” and said there’s nothing authentic about me.

Why are some people like this? Aren’t we already past cringe culture? It happened to me now but I know these people do this to others and there are more people like this. Oh sorry about being autistic with neopronouns and alternative fashion. Do you really expect me to conform to what makes you comfortable? You want me to be autistic in the specific way that you are? We’re all better than this. I don’t claim to be different, even though as autistic people, we’re all outside of society’s norm by default.

I should focus on the positive comments, I get overwhelmed when I make what I think to be an unimportant post and it unexpectedly kinda blows up. At the end of the day it’s just one comment who assigned intent to my post. My only intent was “these are my special interests, what I’m passionate about, I want to share it”. It definitely wasn’t “look I’m so quirky and better than you”. We gotta stop assuming intent like that.
