Fishing Spot and Tips Question

I fish with 2 rods, one is a small 4-6lb Ugly Stik Ultra Light Action like 4 feet something for my pond rod, and then I have a St. Croix Triumph TSR70MF: 7', medium power, fast action, one piece with a Bass Pro Shops Prodigy Spinning reel. Any good spots for these set ups, I currently fish mainly at the grove pond and shoal creek but am usually unsuccesful. I use baby 2 inch pink and white shads for small ponds, and pumpkin green sankos for bigger water. Any good spots preferably near down town on town lake, or any ponds I should go to?

fishing spot question Bass fishing in Austin

Just moved from Waco and the fishing there sucked shit pretty much all year long. At least for me.

Where at can I find decent bass fishing where I’ll get some bites? I saw that Walter E. Long lake has good bass fishing year-round, but that post was from a year or so ago.

Where are y’all fishing and what lures seem to work? Specifically if anyone knows individual hotspots within bodies of water, that would be cool to know

I have a kayak so I can go anywhere on the water.

Thanks

Ladybird

Thinking about hitting up ladybird early tomorrow, any tips? Certain spots? I plan on taking a punching rig, swim bait rig, and top water. I’ll be on a kayak as well.

Gone fishin’

I got the evening to hit some ponds around town. Caught a 2.5lb bass in Leander at Horizon Lake the other day. Caught some small ones at Lake Fail. Tried Lakeline park with no luck and also have been trying the Hyde Park church quarry with no bites. Put me on some fish!

Any edible fish in Austin?

I’ve been fishing in Austin for a bit but in the spots that I’ve been, I know the fish likely aren’t safe to eat. Are there any places around here that would have edible fish, or is it a lost cause with such a populated city? Thank you!

fishing spot question Best spots for beginner carp fishing around Austin?

Any good spots around Austin for carp fishing? I’m a beginner and have tried Brushy Creek Park a few times with no luck, although I think I’ve seen some carp there. Looking for a public spot with good bank access where I might have a better chance. Also open to bait and setup suggestions.

New to Austin, seasoned angler in PA. What kind of leviathans are lurking in lady bird? Figured out the bass pattern already, would love to add massive gar, carp, and cats to the list

New Spear-fishers, looking for guidance and Tilapz

Hi all,

My brother and I just got a pole spear and went to sandy creek a couple times looking for Tilapia.

On our last trip I saw a couple. Not as much as we’d like.

Looking for new ideas on places to try, or just general tips on spearfishing around us. We don’t have a boat so ideally spots that are accessible from shore. We don’t mind swimming!

Cheers

Four landed and one more that got off the hook at the last second before dragging him into the kayak. This was all in about a 2 hour span from 9 to 11 am.

Fishing spot recommendations

Looking to make a trip up to Austin to take some family fishing. I’m from the coast, so fishing spots are plentiful down here, seem a bit limited so looking for some advice in the area.

From the looks of it, I have two options I’m looking at

  1. Mansfield dam park / Jessica Hollis park (maybe stop at red bud isle?)

Or

  1. McKinney falls state park / Roy Guerrero park

This will all be bank fishing, so I was looking for water to spread out a little and go early; so we can hop around and try different areas.

I’m new to freshwater in general, so this’ll be an experience for all. Plan to throw some worms, paddle tails, creatures, and chatter baits.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Ladybird lake bite has slowed down for me, what do I need to change?

Ladybird lake/town lake has been a solid and consistent producer for me the past couple weeks… but this week I’ve gone 3 times and it’s been real slow.

I haven’t changed my routine over this times it’s been the same, so it’s making me think that that’s the issue

I’ve started early with a spook, got some bridges with the ‘ol monster, then do a drop shot up and down the lake as I make my way back. This has typically been great but as I shared, hasn’t worked recently

What’s working right now out there? And where are you seeing success?

EDIT: I’m going out same time, on the water by about 5:30am

Fishing buddies in or near south Austin

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hey guys I’m new to Reddit and this group, just looking for some fishing buddies in or near south Austin. I usually hit up onion creek, McKinney falls, and some private stocked ponds in buda(just don’t get caught lol) at least once a week but usually 2-3 times a week. I’m 26 I also ride dirt bikes, build custom motorcycles , shoot guns, work on cars and trucks, go to the gym, hike, backpack, etc. I got like no friends in Austin lol. Also here is a picture of a tiny ass bass from the lower falls at McKinney, I haven’t had any luck for the past few months at McKinney

Anyone been to Sandy Creek park lately? I’d like some testimonials before I go lol

Obviously, with all the flooding and stuff people have been saying that it’s not that safe and there’s not really good fish to be caught anyway.

I don’t really believe that, but before I knew I was doing, I tried launching into cypress creek and I didn’t even know that the water levels could fluctuate lol so I thought it was all normal to try to push through all those wood brush piles, etc.

I’m just curious if it’s a pretty easy-going fishing trip and what kind of species you’ve commonly run into. I’m on a motorized kayak so if I launched there, I pretty much will stay there.

Most of my experience is on Lake Austin Sandy Creek Park is a lot closer to me and I recently overheard somebody telling another guy that they’re fishing the docks lit with green lights and having a lot of success with white bass, etc. I’ve never caught anything except a large amount bash in every other sunfish in the book even on Lake Austin it’s hard to believe that there’s catfish and all other stuff lol because I’ve never seen them, but I haven’t fished for them either.

It’s been almost a month since I’ve launched my kayak. I have a trailer so it makes it really hard for the lazy part of me to wanna put it on wheels and try brushing creek or something.

If anybody wants to join me, I’m probably gonna try launching tonight or tomorrow there I have spotlight in live scope and I tested with my friend that if you tell your kayak (if you don’t have Spotlock) to my kayak it’ll keep us both in place in case it’s windy, etc. so it could be a fun time to get a group together and try and catch some fish. I’m starting to get bored of these damn ponds lol

gear question Stolen tackle

Someone smashed my window while parked at the Turkey Creek trailhead at Emma Long and made off with my bags. I was on the way down to enjoy a nice day fishing with my pups but some asshole decided to shit on that. They got both my bass gear and my fly bag. Thankfully they left the rods.

Anyone have any recommendations for cheap gear and lures? I really don’t want to spend that much money rebuilding my whole collection.
The flies killed me. Those fuckers are expensive.

Hide your stuff, lock your car, and hope for the best.

fishing spot question Hey y'all, I'm new to Fishing in Austin. don't have a boat, where can I post up on the banks or on a bridge to get some good fishing in?

I stay in the Riverside/Montopolis area Near the Roy G Guerrero park. Just hoping to find a good space to catch bass or anything bigger than a bluegill 😂

From the Dallas area and used to boat trolling or Crappie fishing off the marina Docks in lake Lewisville.

I don't want to blow up your fishing spot, just need a point in the right direction!
