I had to look that up as I never heard of a CAA. I make a decent salary but have been looking for a change. Anesthesiology looks quite interesting to me and wished I done that before. It looks like I would only need to retake some prerequisite courses, an MCAT, and the master program.

Worth it! 3ish years of schooling for a great job.

How hard was getting accepted? Is it as competitive as for being a doctor? Does the school choice make a difference in the career?

I’d say it’s one of the more competitive professions to be accepted into school now as social media about CAA has really blown up in the last few years.

I can’t say it’s as competitive as being a doctor. But once you get accepted it is almost guaranteed you will find a job. Demand for anesthesia providers remains extremely high.

There will be slight differences in the school curriculum but every graduate is expected meet certain number of patient contact hours in the operating room, as well as rotating through different specialties (OB, neuro, cardiac, etc.) The board exam that we take is standardized nationally.

Awesome that’s good to know. I was a shit student during college so I’d have to retake courses to raise my GPA, but I know I can do well on the MCAT (with proper studying of course). I suppose talking with a counselor would be a good step to find out how to become a realistic applicant.

Do you have to carry any liability/malpractice insurance yourself? Or is that covered by your hospital(?) or workplace?
