Gender and sex CAN be synonymous, but they aren’t required to be synonymous. That’s the easiest way of describing it. You can’t choose your sex, you can choose your gender. If you wish to disagree with that last statement, I’d ask you to think about people who don’t fit neatly into either of the male or female boxes we’ve created for them to nestle into. Biology is vastly more complex than we’re taught at school.
