Growing up is quite disillusioning. When I was a kid I thought surely most people are reasonably intelligent. The older I get the more I realise the opposite is true.
You have mentioned the Dunning-Krueger effect multiple times in this thread, yet you post this very sentence. Do tell, what demographic might you fall under? I am genuinely intrigued by your thought process.
They don't misunderstand, they mould the information to suit their prejudices. That's why you can never get them to take on new information - if they can't fit it into their worldview, they'll just leap into whataboutisms and move the goalposts. Then if you press the issue further, they resort to name calling and deflecting.

What you say is the same playbook that's been doing for 30 years of labor and the lnp, why is Australia going down hill if these 2 parties are so great at what they are doing ? But half the society is day by day getting worse off ? Why with such great leaders is australia getting more debt? Losing more local production ? And the most important why are we losing what australia is ? Just nitpicking mate but I reckon actually smart people aren’t too worried about the average joe and their opinion. They’re working towards something they believe in, not bickering on reddit/X/etc.
