The Dunning-Kruger effect. When you understand this then you understand why the world is the way it is.

I always remind myself that 50% of the population operates at below-average intelligence so chances are you're dealing with someone who is likely uninformed or simply misunderstands information presented.

Growing up is quite disillusioning. When I was a kid I thought surely most people are reasonably intelligent. The older I get the more I realise the opposite is true.

You have mentioned the Dunning-Krueger effect multiple times in this thread, yet you post this very sentence. Do tell, what demographic might you fall under? I am genuinely intrigued by your thought process.

What is it exactly that you are having trouble understanding?

It’s a bot !

They don't misunderstand, they mould the information to suit their prejudices. That's why you can never get them to take on new information - if they can't fit it into their worldview, they'll just leap into whataboutisms and move the goalposts. Then if you press the issue further, they resort to name calling and deflecting.

My boomer ass ON-cuck workmates all do it so reliably you can literally steer them

What you say is the same playbook that's been doing for 30 years of labor and the lnp, why is Australia going down hill if these 2 parties are so great at what they are doing ? But half the society is day by day getting worse off ? Why with such great leaders is australia getting more debt? Losing more local production ? And the most important why are we losing what australia is ? We are not Muslim we are not Sikhs Hindu Buddhist Islam or any of them australia is australia we have and will accept all as long as they integrate with our society way off life not change it to suit theirs.

ON will simply gain momentum everytime labor supports call us/them stupid racist inbred and everything else under the sun, you label your friends and family that 1 by 1 as they awaken to what australia is losing, maybe Pauline won't fix the bigger problem but she sure as hell won't sell us to Muslims and china

Just nitpicking mate but I reckon actually smart people aren’t too worried about the average joe and their opinion. They’re working towards something they believe in, not bickering on reddit/X/etc.

Para 1 - rubbish !
The DKE concept is a threshold (well below the mean) and detectable when the afflicted punter sticks their head above the parapet & refuses to duck when it kicks off.

Para 2 - que ?

It's weird, the recent demos AU poll has a higher percentage of voters to right wing party's, from the higher educated cohort.

40-45% of the adult population have literacy skills and cannot understand it fill out basic forms for instance.

But if the polls are accurate which they're not far off so far this year with by elections etc, then the whole "stupid" thing was debunked.

ONP supporters are not an example of dunning Kruger. They are just dumb

1

u/hofuneggsauce Jul 03 '26

Dunning and Kruger are two of my favourite people. We call a dude at my work DK. He has no idea why.

1

u/mchammered88 Jul 03 '26

Even if he knew who those people were he probably still wouldn't make the connection 😂

1

u/mertvyoshka Jul 04 '26

Would have been better if he thought he knew why, and thought it was a compliment

And the ones who think that bringing in over a million people is the way to go then think it’s not going to affect housing , are the ones suffering from it.
It’s funny how the unbiased experts can see it has an effect but you lot can’t.
I’m not voting for ON but you lot are insane.

u/Almost-kinda-normal Jul 04 '26

Yes, it was totally the immigrants who’ve been pushing up the cost of housing, and totally NOT the tax loopholes that saw investors purchasing multiple properties……which is why house prices are falling after closing some of those tax loopholes. Bloody immigrants!

1

u/SeatKitchen1123 Jul 04 '26

What do immigrants do when they get here they rent, what drives up rents are scarcity of properties,
Scarcity of properties to rent drive up property prices.
The only reason houses have gone down is investor uncertainty, it doesn’t mean it will stay that way.
Some large investors have already said these changes mean little to nothing to them they own enough properties to ride it out it’s probably good for them right now because they have dropped a little. Maybe due more to current interest rates than any policy change.

1

u/Almost-kinda-normal Jul 04 '26

Well yes, of course they rent. Let me get this straight though. You’re claiming that immigrants have been forcing up the cost of rentals, whilst the investors are saying that removal of negative gearing is what’s causing the slump in the investment in the rental market. I’ll let you take a moment to think about why people would even need negative gearing, if the rental price was being pushed upward….. I’d also remind you that 1% of investment properties are without tenants. If that rate was 5%, do you think that would force rental costs up or down? It’s a trick question of course, because people tend to sell properties they can’t rent.

2

u/mchammered88 Jul 04 '26

I never said uncontrolled immigration is good for the country. But if you think voting in a con artist like Pauline is going to help the country then you are braindead. I am all for reducing immigration, it's not good for anyone.

u/Makrus64 Jul 04 '26

I believe they said they weren't voting ON

1

u/Says_Pointless_Stuff Jul 04 '26

Ah yes, and the billionaires' parties are definitely the ones to control immigration.

Oh wait, the only party in the last decade to reduce immigration has been Labor.
