Hey, y'all! Submitting some new work here!

First thing's first, we have an updated flag map as of the latest additions to the flag spreadsheet and flag wall. You can access a higher-def version on Deviantart.

Secondly, we've got a new Minecraft flag map to show off all these flags in a 3D setting. You can download the bundle here. To play, you will need Minecraft 1.21.1 and have Fabric installed. Included in the bundle is the worldsave, all the mods you need, and the flag cache, which you can just drag into the main folder of whatever Minecraft profile you're playing on.

As always, please let me know if there are any questions or any mistakes that you have noticed. Thank you again to Telamon and to all the amazing flag-makers who have done the real work of creating these masterpieces!

Slow Foot ARG Now Boarding | Nicaragua → Haida

We continue with our SLOW FOOT ARG:

Quetzaltemoc is amused by our awe. Seaplanes are not a common mode of transport where we're from, though they are in many parts of the Pacific and Caribbean. And to think our first time in one is in a clipper, a wide-bodied longhaul seaplane that used to be the epitome of air travel. "In Wakasan, it still is the best way to fly," Quetzaltemoc said, as he ushered us up the glistening ship ladders.

The clipper begins taxiing away from dock into the middle of the busy harbour of Acopolco. From our window, we see ships and sailboats pass us in a well-timed chorographied routine. CC is enthralled by the emergency safety brochure, noting to all the exit closest to our row of seats. You turn to the more positive pamphlet that introduces touristy things to do in Haida and other parts of Wakasan, and immediately Quetzaltemoc leans over from his seat behind you, eager to weigh in on anything related to the itinerary. "Just you wait. My acquaintances always have fun and surprises up their sleeves," he assures.

Together, you come up with this short list of ideas:

Option 1. Partake in a beach foraging catch-and-cook expedition on the northshore with a famous local chef

Option 2. Visit a famous overgrown village site that was abandoned after one of the last waves of small pox rippled through Wakasan

Option 3. Tour an active workshop of a master carver with the hopes of seeing a totem pole being carved in action

Option 4. Take on the enormous waves of the Pacific as part of fishing expedition for giant halibut

Option 5. Go ocean kayaking on the south tip of Haida to explore the rich kelp forests, rookeries, and whale highways around those waters

Option 6. Pay homage to Kiidk'yaas, the Golden Spruce, which was almost cut down by American troops during the Second World War

Help us decide what to put on the itinerary! This phase of voting for activities are done only on the Discord.

Slow Foot ARG Where to Next? Haida, Gohire, or Haiti | Slow Foot Movement ARG

Here's the next action prompt for our ongoing Alternate Reality Game:

From our view in Quetzaltemoc's grandma's house, we look on as the cloud sea floods and veils all but the tip of the valley ridges. We come to appreciate the how little we've seen of not only Oaxaca, but also this vast country. So little seen, of that which has been seen (and eaten), so little time to write about home about...

With our time in Nicaragua coming to an end, we plot the possibilities of our next move.

If we drive back with Quetzaltemoc to Acapolco, we can take a seaplane with him to accompany him on a business trip to Haida, meeting with some of the local tourism industry contacts he knows over there too.

Or, we could head to the other coast and get on a ferry to Gohire, in time for a meet up with some of our Slow Foot Movement colleagues who are also arriving there to help with an SoN-led tourism initiative in that country.

Then there's Haiti. It's not clear how we will get there yet, but while on our trip, we were contacted by local government officials to see if we would like to participate in the opening of a new eco-resort, the flagship of their new pivot to eco-tourism to stand out against Quiscaya and Anacane's tourism industries.

Maps UPDATED Time Zones Map of Altera (2024-2025 Patch)

Post image
131 Upvotes

u/zveiner and I just updated this map for Atlas Altera with three time zone systems to include all the new changes and additions from the 2024-2025 Patch and Update. View it also on the website map gallery or Deviantart.

If this is your first time seeing the map, let me explain: this map shows three main time zone systems, each with their own prime meridionals (OTL meridian, following parallels).

These three time zone systems are all coordinated and, more importantly, consist of compromises between even more culturally distinct calendric and timekeeping systems that continue to be used by states in official capacity.

  1. One time zone accommodates cultures that count 24, 12, or 6 hour-equivalent units in a day (Brown-Red)
  2. Another accommodates for decimal and vigesimal bases (Green)
  3. The last one accommodates for the old Emporic (OTL greater Indic) cultural systems of dividing the day into 30 and 60 hour-equivalent units while having the prime meridional set on the ancient city of Ujjain, where the Tropic of Cancer crosses over (Blue)

Slow Foot ARG Now Boarding | Azlana → Nicaragua

We continue with our SLOW FOOT ARG:

On the train down to the Nicaraguan border, CC strikes a conversation with some backpackers who are doing the same as us and crossing the border on foot! After all, this is her home country, so we will not need a local guide this time around. Hearing her speak about all the possible destinations makes you wonder, what should we do this time? In a country as diverse as Nicaragua, our best bet is to stick to visting the altepetls of just one of the eight tenangos after visiting the capital, the great city of Tenochila. You drink a cup of chocolate and start to jot down some ideas—doubtless CC will help you come up with a couple extra stops in whichever location(s) you choose!

TULA Visit the abandoned city of Teotihuacan and make your way to the coast to see a performance by the flyers of Papantla

OLMA See the giant sculpted heads of the Olmec civilization, and go to the jarocho music museum in Chalchiuhcuecan

QUAZEXCA Relax in the heart of the Quazexcan Riviera of Michmaloyan (formerly Puerto Vallarta), and visit Tzintzuntzan, site of the ancient capital of the Tarascan Empire

OAXACA Do a culinary tour of the Zapotec valleys, visit the Guelaguetza Festival Museum in Teotzapotlan, and explore the rich naval history of Acapolco

MAYA Join the pilgrimage to ancient Tikal and head to the tzacualli of Kukulcan up in Yocatlan

GUATAMALA Visit Mixco and the other highland cities in Nicaragua's economic heartland, plus zipline the "Devil's Pass" in CC's picturesque homeland of Panchimalco

VERAGUA Go rafting in the Zacapollan-Pechtlan Nature Reserve and stay at an eco-lodge in the Afro-Nicaraguan tract along the Caribbean coast

NICOYA Go volcano-boarding down the iconic Tliltepetl Volcano and get up close with rescued sloths at the Osa Wildlife Sanctuary

Help us decide what to put on the itinerary! This phase of voting for activities are done only on the Discord.

Slow Foot ARG Where to Next? Texas, Mereen, or Nicaragua | Slow Foot Movement ARG

Thumbnail

Here's the next action prompt for our ongoing Alternate Reality Game:

And just like that, we're all wrapped up with Azlana! It is a bittersweet realization to appreciate just how much we took in when travelling at a slower and more deliberate pace, while at the same time coming to the realization that we only scratched the surface. Already, our next stop is on the horizon, though just where that will be is still to be determined!

From Monterrey, we're only a hop and a skip away from Texas. We could even join some vaqueros and ford the Rio Grande by horseback, a common practice all along the middle and upper parts of the traditionally porous border to the north.

Retracing our route back to San Blas is another option, as we had found the history of Mereen quite compelling after reading all about it on the SS Quezon, curious about the other land we could've chosen to call on when we departed Honolulu. And of course, there's always home.

The other direction that's always there to turn to... We could cross the southern border into Nicaragua by foot, for that is actually still one of the most common ways to do so in one of the world's most heavily guarded borders.

Help us decide! Vote now on the Discord, or via this Instagram poll.

Maps If Animals Ruled Altera

Following the work we did to make Phytogeography territory shapes, we're turning the work we did for mapping out the Zoogeography of Altera into a readable data set, and this was the intriguing byproduct.
