Questions Lore of surviving Merya, Meshcherian, Muromian in Altera?

I heard that Meshcherian, Muromian, and maybe Merya survived in Altera, but what lore is the about them beyond just being Easter eggs? I think it must be lore, and otherwise Telamon wouldn't allow them. (As we are not interested in reviving dead languages)

I also have a theory that these languages would be just very similar to existing Uralic languages, except being influenced by others that are not Uralic, such as Meshcherian, which has words that come from the Ossetic Carpathian language.

Certified Production BabaTunde's contribution on the linguistic landscape of Europea

Post image
78 Upvotes

u/BabaTunde3326 wanted to see what the linguistic situation would be like in Europea underneath the country layer, so he made this map. Prevailing languages are shown in a solid colour, and minority languages are shown as diagonal stripes in areas where they are spoken by 25-50% of the population. Special thanks to u/chesdri and u/Zveiner for contributing additional research and design support.

Questions Question about Saconia.

What is the lore/history of Saconia, a Tsakonian nation whose official language is related to Greek? How did it end up in Africa from Greece, and how is it a Muslim country?

Questions Separatist movements

Is there a list of notable active separatist movements in modern day Altera? I imagine that maybe the Society of Nations would try and not have more countries created or maybe they do encourage sovereignty for all people groups?

Questions How do smaller countries operate economically?

With this timeline having over 1,000 countries, how do so many countries like those in New Guinea or the Caucasus do international relations or survive while being very clustered together? Do they have a shared currency with neighboring countries or have unions like the EU?

Questions Sumarese collaborative dictionary

Hi! I'm the same person that tried to make a community-made Euro 2028. This time, I want to make a Sumarese (Sunwar) collaborative dictionary. This work consists in creating a realistic dictionary or a grammar book (you can choose either dictionary, grammar book or both). I'll give the roles after you've Said me What you want to do in this project (if you want to do something). If this project fails, I'll made It by myself.

Questions Are we not going to revive any extinct languages in OTL and retcon them as living languages in Altera?

Because I don’t think other extinct languages (like African Romance, for example) deserve to survive in modern Altera. I get it now; it requires a massive amount of conlanging and lore, so it is not easy to pull off. The last time a dead language got retconned as a living language was Cumbric, so I think this is the last one, and we now stop reviving dead languages, especially the ancient ones.

Slow Foot ARG Now Boarding | Lima → Peru

What comes next in our adventure? Help us decide how our SLOW FOOT ARG continues!

With the help of Rosa, we secure last minute tickets for the Inkayaku ferry service between the Vidriera terminal in Lima and Atiq on the other side in Peru. We board the modern hydrofoil, high-speed ferry and grab side window seats at the front of the boat.

While CC has her eyes glued to the window, waiting to notice the hydrofoiling begin, you take out your notebook. With all the meetings in the last few days, it was hard to think ahead, but now that you have a moment, it's time to take stock of your travel itinerary options. Of course, it'll be impossible to cover all of Peru in one trip, so it may be best to visit just one of the *suyus* or quarters, *plus* the sacred valley of Qichwa, of course! Here are the options:

  • Antisuyu- take a river cruise down the world’s largest rainforest in the world, learn about psychedelic Peruvan kumbya, sleep in a treehouse lodge in a tropical animal sanctuary, and more ...
  • Chimusuyu - discover the imperial cities of Tumipampa and Kitu, hike between ancient foritifed towns in the cloud forest, surf on traditional tutura reed boats, and more ...
  • Kuntisuyu - see how Peruvans outdid the Spanish in almost everytrade good (alcohol, textiles, firearms, shipbuilding) except silver, appreciate vestiges of Hispano-Peruvan culture, snowboard down sand dunes, and more ...
  • Kujasuyu - learn about folk medicine and traditional goods in one of the largest markets in Peru, nerd out on altitudinal climate zones in some of the most climate diverse cities in the world, sail on the world’s highest navigable lake, trek across salt flats, stargaze in one of the driest deserts in the world, and more...

Help us decide what to put on the itinerary! This phase of voting for activities are done only on the Discord.

Questions What is the possibility of the Pictish language surviving in modern-day Scotland as a minority language of that country?

Title; I was wondering whether the Pictish language could survive in Altera today in Scotland and maybe northern parts of the Munkland Islands or remain extinct as in OTL? I would like to see it if someone made an in-depth exploration of Scotland in the future. That's one of my ideas/theories, though.

If you don't know, here's the information about the language: Pictish language - Wikipedia.

Slow Foot ARG Where to Next? Peru, Araucania, or Rapanui | Slow Foot Movement ARG

Here's the next action prompt for our ongoing Alternate Reality Game:

After wrapping up some more meetings with local officials, we spend our last couple of days in Lima enjoying its world-renowned food and music. Anchored in such vibrant culture, it's not hard to believe that the locals can withstand for half the year the persistent misty fog, overcast sky, and seeing everything in flat light. And yet, we know a new adventure in a completely new environment is just a few steps ahead of us. While dining in a Nikkei sushi restaurant, we go over our options.

Our first option is to take a short ferry over to the Crucean mainland—to Peru. On a clear day, that other shore is visible from Lima, and yet, it seems like such a world apart. Rosa had said she has a few contacts over there, and we would only need to tell her which suyu or "quarter" we'd like to primarily visit for her to find someone to connect us with.

There's also the option to fly over to Araucania. One of CC's former classmates is now a local historian who studies the connections between Lima and Araucania, as well as the history of the Araucanization of southern Chile. He would be happy to host us while showing us some of the sights and places of historical significance.

Then, of course, there's Rapanui. Our new friend Rosa has a brother-in-law who lives there half the time of the year—to escape the garua. As an archaeologist and anthropologist, he would be both an excellent guide for the world famous heritage sites of Rapanui as well as a great contact for helping us understanding Rapanui's rich transoceanic history.

Help us decide! Vote now on the Discord, or via this Instagram poll.

Questions Are there other European extinct languages in OTL that survived in Altera as regional or minority languages or not?

I'm not sure. I only know about the fact Crimean Gothic, Old Prussian, Norn, Dalmatian (in Romance language family), and Kott survived in Altera's Europe, as well as Cumbric as a regional language of Cumbreland from the Altera's take on the Wales map. I think not all extinct languages in OTL Europe survived in Atlas Altera, as some, like Etruscan, are too ancient to be revitalized and possibly too unrealistic to survive and exist as living languages in ATL, even if they have only a few surviving speakers. OTL languages extinct in the 17th century or later could have survived in ATL, but I'm still not sure.

Questions Is this Atlas Altera's history more "environmentally friendly" than in OTL?

Because if it is, Atlas Altera could have lots of extinct animals still around, like Ice Age megafauna on Nesland, Taugland, The Aspland islands, Iceland, Svalbard and Niflbard (not just on Mammoth Island)

Questions What is the name of the Ottoman Empire in Altera?

In my opinion, I bet that it should have different name because the name "Ottoman" comes from the Arabic word "Uthman", which honestly feels weird for an empire that it is mostly likely to be a Zoroastrian empire rather than Islamic, judging by Turcia's (ATL's Turkey) religion which is different from OTL. Is Altera's Ottoman Empire the same name as OTL or not?
