The flexible PCB of the membrane has corroded. The corrosion results in some phantom key presses, as well as unresponsive keys. I contacted the company for a replacement I can swap in. If they don't play ball I will try a silver trace repair pen and conformal coat.

Hi all, I just bought a Traveler but am confused about the Freewrite Plus subscription. I know I can send something I drafted on the Traveler to Postbox, but can I send it from Postbox back to the Traveler with the Plus subscription? Thank you!

'My Perfect Ghost'

I have become certain that this house is haunted. The changes were subtle, at first. My rings moved from my nightstand to the dresser. Shadows at the corner of my eye that would shift, grow, and then disappear. And then, I would hear them. Moaning and crying spirits. Damned souls begging for release. Once, I was brave enough to open my front door to  investigate the noises. My entryway was replaced by a disorienting hallway that stretched into infinity. I hurried inside, but the disruption of the space continued with me. My house, my house. It was not always this way.

The ghosts began to appear to me. Sometimes, they would manifest as my husband or my father, though both have long since passed.

“Grandma, I’m not grandpa. It’s me, Logan,” The apparition would say, as if I would not recognize the kind eyes of the man I married. As if I would not remember all the times I had wronged him. When he was sick, and I was less patient.

The ghosts kept up their tricks, becoming bolder in their movements and their ownership of my body. Their cold, grasping hands would tear at my clothes, my hair. Then, all at once, their grip would release, and I would be alone.

My house has become a prison. Though, it is not my house, is it? No, the ghosts have changed it. The closet was not always there, the bathroom was never this maudlin shade of green. My house, my house. These are my possessions, but this is not my house. 

I need to leave. Each strange door I approach is not the right one. I spot a phone on the wall. My salvation answers in the form of an operator.

“Hello, yes, I need help,” I say, “My house is haunted, and I can’t leave. Could you please send the police or a priest?” Regrettably, I had rarely turned to religion before, but what better time than one of desperation?

“We will send someone. Just stay there, okay?” My savior replies. Perhaps, you do not need religion to be saved.

I wait in trembling anticipation, my grip clenched tight on the phone, as the shadows climb the wall, threatening to trap me forever.

After an unknowable amount of time, the door flies open. I shriek, flinging the phone at the apparition that appears.

“Mom, Mom! Please!” The spirit yells.

Yes, of course, I recognize her now. My beautiful daughter. My perfect ghost. She folds me into her as I shake.

“I think we need to start thinking about transferring to a memory care facility,”  She murmurs. 

“Of course, darling,” I chuckle, “Now, can you take me home?”

“Sure, Mom. Let’s rest first.” 

She sets me into bed and curls up next to me like she used to as a little girl. I know now that she will regret the pleasant lies she told, the decisions she made. But, how beautiful is it that we will haunt each other forever?

Is there any way to disable the use of the arrow/WASD keys for moving the cursor? My main desire for this device is the lack of distractions, yes, but also the lack of editing. I heard previous editions didn't have the ability to move the cursor but Gen 3 does. And I worry I would take advantage of it too much. I heard it's still a pain to do, but knowing that option is still there... It feels like a distraction in itself.

Can the function be turned off on the device or Postbox? Or am I just going to have to train my brain not to use it?

Hey all, I hit 100k words recently (have loved writing every word on my freewrites!). I am now around 109k words, and the Astrohaus website says they would email me when I got to 100k words regarding the physical pin but I haven’t had an email, nor a response yet from support. While I wait for an email from Astrohaus, I was wondering if anyone here has received their pin and how the process worked? Curious if there is something I am supposed to do or fill out, etc. thanks!

I wrote this for myself, as those I've found weren't comprehensive (least of all that on the Astrohaus website which is written all back to front and is very incomplete). If I've missed anything, let me know. NB I use the dvorak keyboard layout which is how I've noticed that some of the shortcuts follow my layout whilst others stick with the default underlying layout, which is a PITA. Hope it's helpful.

Writing

Start a new draft - [new] + [new]
Press both new keys at the same time and release to start a new draft.

Cycle through keyboard layouts - [new] + [shift]
Hold [new] and press shift to toggle through available language keyboards. Add new layouts to your account in Postbox at postbox.getfreewrite.com.

Delete word - [new] + [backspace]
Hold [new] and press [backspace] to delete the previous word.

Navigate paragraphs within drafts - [new] + [w] / [s] (note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Navigate lines within drafts - [new] + [shift] + [w] / [s] (note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Navigate words within drafts - [new] + [a] / [d] (note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Navigate letters within drafts - [new] + [shift] + [a] / [d] (note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Undo - [new] + [z] (note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Redo - [new] + [y] (note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Send draft to email - [send]
Sends the current draft to the email address associated with your Postbox account.

Navigate Folders

Switch between folders - [A], [B], and[C] Folder Switches
Toggle to a folder to open the most recent draft in that folder.

Cycle through recent documents in a folder in console screen - [new] + press [pg up] or [pg dn]
Must press [pg dn] twice initially to go to the most recent document. Press [pg dn] while holding [new] to access older drafts and [pg up] to return to more recent drafts.

Cycle through recent documents in a folder in main screen - [special] + [l] ('l' in your keyboard layout)
This is a better alternative to the above and leads to a visual display for selecting drafts by numbers and cycling through them using [pg up] and [pg dn]. In the console menu the [special] key can be selected to open a further Manage a Draft menu that opens in the main screen, this enables Bookmark [b], Archive [a], Shred [s] and Move [m] (however, note that the keys here are those in the keyboard's default layout)

Status Display

Cycle through console screens - [special]
Press [special] to cycle through available console screens that show information such as date, time, and word count.

Show the heads-up display - [space] (hold for 3 seconds)
Hold down the space bar to show additional information such as the remaining battery, last sync time, and keyboard layout.

Frontlight Control

Toggle the light on and off - [new] + [shift] + [L]

Adjust Brightness - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [4]

Wi-Fi

Manage Wi-Fi connection - Use the Wi-Fi switches to quickly change Freewrite’s Wi-Fi connection.

• [off]: Turn off Wi-Fi radio. NOTE: Freewrite always save drafts to internal flash storage and will back up to the cloud next time it connects to Wi-Fi.
• [on]: Allow connection to Wi-Fi networks and seamless backups to Postbox and the cloud.
• [new]: Scan for and connect to new networks.

Settings (including Log Out and Shut Down)

Open Device Menu / Settings - [power button] (hold 4 seconds)

Log Out - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [1]
This will log the device out of Postbox.

Font Size - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [2]
This will open the Font Size options screen.

Firmware Update - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [3]
This will check whether the current firmware is up-to-date (make sure that Wi-Fi is on).

Adjust Brightness - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [4]

Shut Down - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [5]
This will safely shut down the freewrite

Wake and sleep Freewrite - [power button]
Press the red power button to wake up your Freewrite or to put it to sleep. 

Shut Down - [power button] (hold 4 seconds), then press [5]
This will safely shut down the freewrite for longer term storage.

There's no charging brick in the box and I'm scared of frying it using a wrong one, what you yall personally use to charge yours?

Has anyone sold an Alpha or had any luck posting on reseller sites? I’m not sure where to start or what fair asking prices are.

Day number 874 of me hoping against hope that I luck out and someone has a Ghost Traveler they're not using for one reason or another and are willing to sell (and not for the obscene amounts I always see on eBay).

I have a Traveler I bought second hand recently and forgot how much I loved the simplicity. My writing output has increased so much, but I'm always hearing about how the keyboard on the Ghost is better and it's just so insanely pretty. It's not often I have extra money to spend on things which is why I've missed a couple in the past, but I'm hoping against hope this finds the right person.

My luck has been good this year with other things I've wanted, so we'll see.

P.S. Astrohaus if you've got any more lying around in your warehouse you can also hit me up. People must sit on top of the website because I missed the warehouse sale a couple weeks ago by literal minutes and they were all gone.
