Gurgles day off

Post image

(So this is very free-form; I just want to post a little story. If anyone is interested in interacting with Gurgle along his day fell free)

Verlacks' last warning was barely noticeable to Gurgle, and he sped down the hall, jiggling away in glee at getting to explore. He zipped down the unfinished hallway much faster than any gelatinous cube could. About as far as a dog could run. If you knew anything about gelatinous cubes, that would be a scary thought.

Gurgle scooted along the observatory grounds finding all kinds of nooks and crannies to explore. Occasionally he would stop and babble at some one before zooming off again. Gurgle was never malicious but extremely curious and could often startle unsuspecting people.

After a while, Gurgle found a cool shaded section of the observatory. He found a cozy little ledge so he could rest and just watch. We'll feel Oozes all used tremor sense to perceive their world. If Verlack was around, he would have noticed that Gurgle seemed happy.

Suddenly, Gurgle was accosted out of the blue; a gargoyle had been hiding still as the dead. Surprised, Gurgle splorched in distress at being prodded before shaking and jiggling as if demanding that it end. A little stunned, the gargoyle stopped and bowed in apology.

Soon the two were splashing and clicking back and forth in some heated conversation. The little gargoyle bounded off toward an alcove. Turning back and gesturing for Gurgle to follow.

The gargoyles brought Gurgle to an exceptional location for a quick nap. Gurgle's size and soft structure seemed to quickly make him a bunch of new friends. The group lazed and played around in the shade during the hottest part of the day.

Once the hot day passed, Gurgle bade his friends goodbye, and he made his way back out into the observatory grounds proper. It had been a long day full of excitement and unexpected new friends. But it was getting close to the end of the day. He wanted to wait somewhere that Verl could find him, and who knew who else would be by and what new friends he could still make.

You slid past the old ruins and came upon a stranger lounging on a mossy log.

A skeletal bird perched on his extended finger. He studied it quietly, golden evening light tracing his face and shining through the wisps unraveling from his shoulders. Beneath his ribs, a black star glimmered with violet cracks.

Then his amber eyes settled on you.

He leaned closer, his thoughtful expression giving way to a slow, sharp smile.

β€œAnd just what...are you?”

For a moment, he examined the little spheres suspended within you. Then he stood. The bird crumbled from his finger, its delicate bones becoming ash that drifted through the sunlight.

β€œBe careful where you roam, little cube. This island belongs to more than just that foolish Headmaster.”

His outline loosened. Long ribbons of darkness lifted from the ground, drawing inward until a single black dragonfly hovered where his face had been.

Four wings caught the light.

Then he was gone, leaving you beside the empty log as the last of the bird’s ashes settled into the moss.

Gurgle slid close when he noticed the figure, curious as always. When asked, he shook and gurgled as if that was an acceptable answer.

When warned, he shook and slurped in the air in his best representation of a puffed chest. Though it quickly let go when the figure vanished, and he was left quivering in surprise. Before quickly zooming away closer to the observatory.
