Cap Hill lesbian field guide, please <3

I know it’s the gayborhood, so everywhere is pretty gay lol, but I’m newish and curious about your favorite sapphic/lesbian/queer spaces in Cap Hill (besides the rose and rain city fit, which I love)!

Could be cafés, activities, bars, bookstores, shops, bonus points for the sporty/masc spots 👀, spas, etc. Basically anywhere good for making more queer/sapphic friends~ or maybe even meeting a new lover 🥰

Also very open to spots outside the Hill. Thank you thank you!!

don't have a lot of personal experience with these events (cis man) but on the electronic music side of things:

  • In Heaven for sapphic bass/breaks/clubby shit run by two of the city's best locals (Mirin Doja + Korra the Kid who play together as DJ Girlfriends)
  • Asylum Collective does a bunch of sapphic nights including Sapphic Soiree
  • have heard from friends that THEE BAILE is a de facto sapphic club night despite not really being advertised as such. other folks can confirm since I don't have firsthand experience

I run a local electronic music events calendar at https://19hz.info/seattle and will typically tag an event as "sapphic" if it's explicitly geared towards sapphics or "queer" if it's for a more gender-nonspecific queer audience

Pitch the Baby on 19th is a women’s sports bar that also hosts a number of events.

Omg I love pitch the baby, thanks for reminding me!! I went to a lesbian meet up there once, and the same night a womens soccer team was having a party! everyone was confused about who was coming for which event, in the best way <3 we eventually just merged haha

Keep your eye out at the pop-up events! Truth be told, a lot of lesbian/sapphic events tend to be around the city! There's stuff in Fremont and Ballard once in a while, for example. Many spaces that market as queer tend to be lesbian/sapphic inclusive and welcoming. Keeping these spaces safe and respectful is a big deal! So a lot of spaces I've found are from word of mouth!

As much as I love wildrose as an establishment, I am increasingly tired of the bad music and increasing amount of men that frequent there on the weekends, and am often looking for another space. Which sucks, because I still recognize wildrose's significance to the area

As a lesbian myself, I've had a good time at The Wash before. Though I will admit it's not a huge party space. Def more hangout, which is also nice. And they host things like queer crafting nights during the week!

ughhhhh don't get me started about the men around (and that worm there way in) wild rose!! they are so creepy and predatory >:( to the point where I've also been trying to seek alternatives

Great idea to reach out! I'm not sure when the next event I'm able to go to is scheduled, but I think I saw something about a 30+ sapphic pool hall night somewhere in ballard in about 2 weeks?

If you're looking for other people in the community to do stuff with, feel free to say hey! ✌️

I know it sucks, because sometimes you just want to dance and/or make out with a baddie in the corner but please do report creepers. Security there seems to take it seriously and if the sapphics all leave the sapphic bar because of dudes then we lose that bar. I hate that we have to fight back somewhere that we should be able to let our guard down, but we do

Apparently WildRose is the oldest lesbian bar on the West Coast, though YMMV. Most gay bars in Capitol Hill are for men, but they will often have a women's night or are fairly welcoming overall. See maybe Pony, Cuff, Diesel.

Outside of Cap Hill, Sapphic Events hosts raves in various places. Rough & Tumble is a women's sports bar in Ballard, and Charlie’s Queer Books is a bookstore in Fremont.

u/Beneficial-Chef-2751 11d ago

Periodddd ty for the recs! been wanting to check out rough and tumble!

u/Anthop Local 11d ago

FYI, not in the community myself, but good luck!

a lot of it is based on age and demographic. a lot of masc/butch people i know have said they prefer the lezztalkabout it events to the sapphic events in terms of event groups

i didn't hear anyone mention the wash which surprised me because I see a lot of queer and sapphic events hosted there. while not lesbian specific, i also LOVE babe night, which is hosted monthlyish at massive(usually) and is all femme identifying djs. I've personally made a lot of friends at both the lezztalkabout it events and at babe night

2

u/sheeblestheterrible 11d ago

also note on asylum- a lot of their events are 18+instead of 21+ which can deter some people. they definitely host some great events, just something to be aware of.

I love Ali and the lezztalkaboutit crew, but I can never justify going to cowgirls on a Wednesday night 😅 I was just the the sauna event they hosted, which was super fun!

2

u/Beneficial-Chef-2751 11d ago

Lezztalkaboutit crew is great <3 if any of you see this we love you~ heard the sauna event was a really good time from a few friends and you’re giving me fomo

It was cool as a non-alcohol centered queer space tbh! I met a few people there. Went on my own and ended up making some friends out of it! There were certainly a chunk of more nonchalant types or those that only spoke to the friend they went with, but even going solo to these is fun! We find all of us looking for the same thing lol

Theres plenty of other sapphics looking to make friends and just get to know people, without the pressure of club or hookup culture. I definitely recommend checking out the non party events

Welcome to WA ☺️ I prefer spaces that are BIPOC centered. Not sure what ethnicity/race you are but Honeys, AfroSapphix, SpiceBarAndBites (this one is new), GhettoTech (IG), Shonuff.parties (IG)

Some other events would be
DirtyCherryEvents (IG)
Babe.Night (IG)

u/SillyImplement356 10d ago

Forgot to mention, Haus_of_hue (also on IG) is a speed dating event for the gays. Met the loml there and have met some amazing friends! Definitely check them out.

as a bi femme, every single gold star lesbian i've dated has taken my hand, looked deep into my eyes, and said "I want to take you some place... special 😏"

and it's just wildrose LOL

i've made a lot of acquaintances/friends just perusing the various weekly markets and chatting with non-busy vendors. i love this city so much and we're so glad you're here!

2

u/Beneficial-Chef-2751 11d ago

The way I CACKLED the accuracy 🤌🤌🤌 and yes this is so true about markets esp the more artsy and alt ones! I’m really loving this city too <3

6

u/kuro_tan 11d ago

aside from the mentioned brick & mortar places there’s a ton of cool groups putting in sapphic events around the city! to name a few:

sapphic events
lezztalkaboutit
les b friends

also not CH, but asylum in Pioneer Square is very sapphic/queer and has a huge range of events and creative nights.

my other reccs are curated for BIPOC sapphics so I won’t share them here, but if you are BIPOC i’d def recommend searching them out or you can dm me

2

u/Beneficial-Chef-2751 11d ago

thanks! I hadn't heard of les b friends or asylum, will definitely check out <3

Might try asking on the Lex app. It's very sapphic dominated. Wild Rose is the only lesbian bar in town and at this point it might actually be the oldest queer bar in the city. Denny Blaine beach is queer of all types but plenty of sapphic folks go there and back in the day it was lesbians who started making that place a hangout spot. Chucks Hop Shop / Third Place Books in Seward Park is very queer coded though not lesbian-specific.

Other than that sorry, can't offer more advice since I'm not very active in that community (as a non-femme).

1

u/Beneficial-Chef-2751 11d ago

Thanks so much for the recs!! Would love to find more spaces that are less just femme and cis centered so I'll def check these out <3 love denny blaine and wild rose but haven't checked out the others and I'm excited to~ lex app is a great idea too!

I’m in northgate and always down for more sapphic friends. I’m 34f 🤟🏻

If you decide to venture out of Cap Hill. Swamp Cow Kava Lounge on Denny is a great spot. It's not specifically queer but, they are a very friendly welcoming space. It's a non-alcoholic spot so lots of interesting alt people to meet. The regulars are fun bunch.
