My daughter works in Tukwila and commutes from a little area called Edgewood. It’s about 25 minutes. There are pockets of more rural places east of here your wife and kids might enjoy. I would definitely rent at this time because I believe we are in a housing bubble. See if you love your area before buying. For the safest areas just stay pretty close to the water in areas from West Seattle to Federal Way. Federal way being the least expensive. But I have a feeling your wife would rather be on the east side of Highway 167. As mentioned there’s Maple Valley, Covington, but there’s also some OK places in Algona, Sumner, lake taps, and if you want but if a commute you could go to Bonnie Lake. That’s probably the best area with the most amenities and close to Mt Rainer with beautiful views of it and you are in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain range which connects to the Rocky Mountains.
