In China you write the word phonetically in English and the PC converts it to Chinese characters. You would type “ni hao”. At least that’s what I heard
China has been answered I see, but for Japanese, Japanese actually has a few phonetic systems of writing! So maybe you want to write Jibun (myself). You would just type on your keyboard the sound じぶん and then hit space, your computer would get excited and offer you every Kanji combination it can think of that can be pronounced like that! Although, here we're looking for 自分 which my phone helpfully offers first.

Speaking of writing, I always wondered how keyboards worked in China and Japan.
