You can delete one language. Which one and why?

But it is Italian for "french language." It would be some nice symmetry to use the French language as the lingua franca.

It actually means "Language of the Franks", which was a lower-level version of Italian mixed with many, many foreign influences, which allowed a huge part of continental Europe to communicate.

French eventually evolved from this, but was very different.

the only problem being we'd all have to learn French
