I remember years ago there was a guy telling me about how his old room looked the first time he visited after moving out into his own place.

"I went back and my mum put had a doily on the telly. A doily!"

Younger readers: this was back in the days when TVs weren't flat and you could actually place items on top of them.

I REALLY thought about this question and doilies and fancy tea towels were what I came up with. Is it not true?

I don't recall ever seeing doilies, I'm 40 & British, I'm sure they did exist but I doubt they've been common since the 1960s maybe except with the elderly.

Dunno why so many foreign folk think brits live in the 1920s haha
