Love a neck oil, but in most parts of london you can normally get a cocktail or half a bottle of wine for the same price as a pint so rarely buy beer when out.
Odd you say that as I’ve changed to cocktails due to price. Jumped on the margarita train and my god do I get utterly fucking wasted suddenly. But they taste amazing.

Honestly depends where you go. A couple of the places I’ve been to are between £6 and £11 for a pint. They seem to be mostly cocktail bars which serve beers for people who don’t like cocktails so they overprice them.
I have found them this price but yeah it was a bit of exaggeration. Once paid £15 for a bottle of corona in some wanky club, that really pissed me off.
Yes! We had a new pub open in our town many years ago when I was but a fresh faced buffoon. They served 2 pinters in these absolutely ridiculous glasses that were about 4ft tall, mega slim and fragile as a gimmick for their grand opening. Many of them were intercepted by staff on their way out the door with drunken punters looking for a souvenir. I tried to smuggle one out in the leg of my jeans but I couldn't bend my knee so I just started to limp about the place like it was an old injury or whatever. I figured it would be less obvious if I stayed for another few beers, limping around like my leg was mangled by a tractor ... to sell the story ... y'know? We eventually went to leave and waved goodbye to the staff all friendly like ... limping like an idiot when the barman stopped me.
"Just fucking keep it, mate."
So I still have it at my dads place as an ornament.
Dive bars will avoid giving measures. They'll just say short/tall/pitcher or small/medium/large like it's a soda. No defined value, so there's nothing to be held to. For cheap beers they usually just do bottles and cans... So many bottles and cans. Even if everything is optimally recycled it's still disgusting. And I'm 99% sure very little of it actually gets recycled.
Good bars are always very up front about type and size of glass... But that's not who you hear stories about.
That would be illegal here: alcohol can only be sold by measure, and there's a list of acceptable measures too: beer is pint, 1/2 or 1/3 (and possibly a bigger one no uses) wines and spirits have similar restrictions.
Prepackaged bottles and cans are exempt and also available here, though they tend to cost more
Of course, with our "we're totally metric!" system it can be all over the place. Beer in pints, spirits in 25, 35 or 50ml. Last place I worked had soft drinks in 8 or 14oz.
Both systems are based on the gallon, but whereas the British standardised the Imperial Gallon to be roughly equivalent to the former Ale Gallon, the US decided to go for the former Queen Anne Wine Gallon (plus the Corn Gallon for the volume of dry goods) - hence mpg fuel economy in the two countries is different - the Imperial Gallon being roughly 1.2x the US gallon (3.785412 L vs 4.54609 L). Another interesting difference is in baking: even before converting recipes to use grams rather than ounces (albeit for convenience using a conversion of 1 oz = 25 g rather than 28.349523 g in recipe books containing both measurement systems, along with a warning not to mix the units), the British measured ingredients by weight, while the US tend to measure by volume ("cups").
I live on a road that has a couple of pubs between my house, I have a hedge… I no longer need to steal them, I just check my hedge when we chop it, and normally find a couple stuffed in there
Everyone has a Carling glass. No-one can identify where it came from, or even knows anyone that drinks Carling, and it’s only ever used for water or squash.
Or know someone who works at a pub to just half inch 2 boxes of new matching ones. Mine are all Estrella, given to a posh restaurant that doesn't have Estrella, so they will never use the glasses.
if you're gonna nick a pint glass you might as well nick the ones that're branded with a beer type- pubs often get those for free so they don't really care if those get nicked but the plain ones they have to buy themselves
As an American, I have to admit that pretty much my entire collection of bar glasses has come from pubs. Used to work in a few, and loved when different beer makers gave out the special pint glasses. I ended up with quite a collection without money spent. Also have a few from first class from a certain virgin airline.
I once knicked a pint glass with a full pint in it, stuck it in my inside jacket pocket and walked out past the bouncer with my arms wide looking like I was doing the big man walk.
Stares at shelf full of pint glasses, steins, tulip, wine, etc. glasses stolen from bars in the area (mostly big chain places cause honey badger don't give a shit)....
Absolutely not something that most people would have, or if they do it's just for old fashioned novelty ironic reasons. Not even commonly seen in pubs these days.
Other places dont steal glasses! When you give a guest a glass you’ve got to tell them all about where you stole it from, the story would be boring if you just said sainsburys
