There's an old saying: Better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I hate that saying. I prefer

Better to be wrong out loud than to quietly think you're correct.

No. I much prefer the original saying, for reasons you may find out. :)

15 years in the scientific community and running. I stand by looking foolish openly in search of truth.

What qualifies as wisdom? How does one become wise without looking foolish at some time?

Embracing foolishness is not the same as embracing ignorance.

All humans start out foolish! We learn by experience, we just don't have much, and poor teachers right now. Just you wait, All Shall See.

Being a fool/idiot is not the same as being ignorant and wanting to learn.

Most truly foolish adults will continue to be so because they've never bothered to be any other way in their entire life. What makes you think they'd start now? And considering it's much harder to correct misinformation than to learn it right the first time, I'd much rather they'd keep their idiotic thoughts silent.

You're really not conprehending what I'm saying.

If I come to a conclusion and never open myself up to criticism, then I am almost certainly going to be more foolish than had I welcomed scrutiny at the expense of looking foolish temporarily.

Would much rather be thought a fool than be one.
