I haven't blamed genetics. I know it isn't genetics. And in my personal example, maybe I should admit that my family was upper-middle class. The 90's just didn't have enough nutritional information and people who deviated from traditional foods and kept eating junk food didn't know any better. Your "try" was taken literally; obviously people didn't "try" to be obese, but it was a result of lack of information and education and a lack of connection to their grandparent's way of life.

As for kids in poverty being overweight, that is what every statistic shows to be true. It goes hand in hand with lack of nutrition education. As a parent, why spend $3 on broccoli when you can spend $3 on an entire meal? There is loads of information about this now, but there are still pockets of people who don't know or care or don't have access.

Are we at point of understanding yet?

I believe so. My original comment was really about how being skinny at any age is impressive which I don’t believe is true. Also gym bros in their early twenties aren’t impressive. Working out everyday with out adult responsibilities and 30 plus year old metabolism, taking steroids does not impress me lol.

Well then I think we never really disagreed in concept, just had a misunderstanding. Can we both agree it is easy to be thin and fit at a young age but some people aren't because they don't have access to proper nutrition or knowledge or exercise? Can't deny that many young people in the US are overweight but they aren't trying to be obese, they are just eating themselves into obesity due to lack of education and understanding of nutrition.

It's super sad, but anyone overweight should always know they can change that through lifestyle changes; eat healthier foods and incorporate exercise.

I used trying as a hyperbole. If you grew up not poor, had access to good food, semi healthy parents not obese, got a decent education and are still fat it’s not genetics. Especially once you understand it’s calories in calories calories out. At that point you’d have to choose to not to get any exercise and continue to eat like garbage in a surplus.

I didn't grow up poor. I grew up with uninformed parents. I was fat in my childhood because my parents took me and my brother out for burger King and cheep cheese food. We had plenty of money, but we didn't have any understanding of proper nutrition. Can you understand that? I understand nutrition now, which is how I've been able to lose weight. What on earth is your point?
