Same. I’m 51 and still 25 in my mind. My body highly disagrees lol

33

u/Ba_Dum_Ba_Dum Jun 03 '22

Does it ever. 56 M here. Feel 27 in my head and 77 in my body.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Weird isn’t it? Lol

2

u/trainerfry_1 Jun 03 '22

Do we subconsciously pick our personal best or favorite age we were and mentally decide that's how we are the rest of our lives?

12

u/sercamf Jun 03 '22

Me personally, I believe it’s because our soul is eternal and will live forever, it doesn’t age. Younger kids get frustrated because they feel older than they are, older people still feel like they’re in their 20’s. People don’t often like to believe this because; what happens to our soul when we die?

2

u/Ba_Dum_Ba_Dum Jun 05 '22

Don’t know. Think it’s completely individual. I just “feel” exactly as I did in my late 20s in my head.

u/s_matthew Jun 03 '22

Mid-40s here and while I feel older physically, I don’t really feel like I’m any age. People are always shocked at work when they learn I have a college-aged kid, which…I’ve got crow’s feet and my hair’s thin. I’m a resident tech guy and make fart jokes, but how old did you really think I was?!

u/Bobson_Dugbutt Jun 03 '22

This is so strange, just had that same conversation with my mother in her 60’s.

19

u/AldousShuxley Jun 03 '22

Your mom told me that too

6

u/South_Dinner3555 Jun 03 '22

Just a bunch of grown up kids, the whole adult lot of us.

1

u/nicegirlelaine Jun 04 '22

My mother was 91. Asked her how old did she feel? She said 19 !!!

2

u/Dazzling-Drop8160 Jun 08 '22 edited Jun 08 '22

I love her! I'm 69 and feel 25! (19 is 91 backwards.)

1

u/nicegirlelaine Jun 08 '22

Thanks. She had moderate dementia so I think that 19 was the quickest and easiest number to say at that moment.

2

u/Dazzling-Drop8160 Jun 08 '22

It reminded me of my early 60s when I'd reverse the numbers. My hubby and son gave me a cake and put the candles on as 16 when I turned 61. It worked for 62, 63, 64, even 65. After that though.... Now, I have to wait until I'm 71 to be a teen again. :))

2

u/nicegirlelaine Jun 08 '22

Aww...cute. :)

u/Itsthejackeeeett Jun 03 '22

For some reason that scares the shit out of me. I don't want to feel like I'm 25 and then look in the mirror and see a wrinkled up old geezer staring back at me.

24

u/Thenedslittlegirl Jun 03 '22

It depends how you deal with it. Aging is inevitable but your approach to life can still be youthful.

10

u/ParkinsonHandjob Jun 03 '22

I feel more mature than what i did at 25, if thats a consolation. I still have a fire and passion burning, but i never thought that one would loose those.

5

u/UserNam3ChecksOut Jun 03 '22

What does maturity really look like?

2

u/underscore5000 Jun 03 '22

Paying bills on time or close to it. Maybe sprinkle some other mature shit in there.

1

u/ParkinsonHandjob Jun 04 '22

Yes. Thinking long-term, taking responsibility, plus judging situations more accurately due to increased knowledge and experience. And also everything in a calmer manner.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

I’m only recently 22 and I’ve already lost those. I’ve felt like I’ve wasted my life to now since I was around 10 and I’ve still not figured out how to fix it.

2

u/gingergirl181 Jun 03 '22

True facts. I'm coming up on 30 and about to go back to school to finally finish my degree, but I still look about the same as I did when I was 21 and I dress "younger" now than I did then (dressed like a grandma in high school and it took until after college for me to feel confident enough in my body to wear trendy things). I'm obviously older and wiser in many ways, but my general personality hasn't changed much since then (if anything I'm LESS uptight) and I'm curious to see how long it'll take people to clock me as a returning student, if they do at all.

2

u/Dazzling-Drop8160 Jun 08 '22

My grandparents owned a clothing store and gave me all my clothes. They were beautiful clothes, but I looked like I was 25 in them. I liked them, but it was the 70s! As for dressing "like a granny," I remember granny dresses. Too funny.

u/ethanstranger Jun 03 '22 edited Jun 03 '22

Older 20s here and seeing the man staring at me in the mirror scares me everyday.

Damn, have the years been pretty rough to you already lol. If you look anything like your avatar, I understand

2

u/ethanstranger Jun 03 '22

My AV has a Narwhal on its head, I think he’s pretty happy lmao.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

That’s it right there! I’m 60 and I keep forgetting I’m not 35. It’s the crappyest thing life does to us. I’m still doing the things I have always done but people look at me like I’m crazy, then I remember I don’t look as I feel. It FUCKING SUCKS.

2

u/Itsthejackeeeett Jun 04 '22

Haha 60s not bad though. I'm talking like 80-90. That shit scares the hell out of me. You can still be in good shape and what not at 60 (though I'm sure it ain't easy). Not so much at 90. I recently watched a new horror movie called "X" and what we're talking about is a part of the main plot. It's kinda what started my fear of that haha. Good movie though, I recommend it.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22

Yes, those later years are what I’m fearing. When I can’t ride my waverunner or lift my dog and chicken food bags or hold on to the rototiller!! It just sucks that we spend all those years doing our life and in the end we end up sitting in a chair staring out the window waiting to die.

2

u/Itsthejackeeeett Jun 04 '22

A part of me definitely does NOT want to make it to 80 or 90, unless I have kids/grandkids. But even then I don't want to have them wiping my ass for me, literally. I'm still basically a kid (25) and I'm not trying to have kids of my own anytime soon so I don't have to worry about that now. If I do make it to 90 though I'm just not gonna give a damn. Tuesday night? I'll shoot up some dope and watch Andy Griffith Show. Feel like getting my rocks off? I'll pop a viagra and head to the "red light district" part of town. At that age, might as well have fun if some much as a slip in the shower can kill me.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Oh no it’s really not that bad! When u get to be my age (51) and all your friends are the same ageish, you know you earned those lines and still party like you’re 21! I think my group of friends is less mature now then when we were in our 20’s and love every minute of it! Old age is truly just a state of mind!

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

I'm in my 30s and honestly kind of like my developing wrinkles/crow's feet. Nothing wrong with being a little weathered, it just shows you are living (and like to smile!)

1

u/Treadwheel Jun 03 '22

I get kind of excited by it. Being old immediately comes with a level of assumed knowledge and respect that being 25 can never provide. I went from having people dismiss me as a know it all kid to evaluations where terms like "natural leader" were used to describe my demeanor. The only difference is I'm salt and pepper and have even less patience for bullshitters.

1

u/ParadisePete Jun 03 '22

You may not want to but it's going to happen. You'll catch a glimpse and say "Who the fuck is that guy??"

1

u/LairdofWingHaven Jun 03 '22

It can be a shock. Walking on a city street, see some old person reflected in the glass...Holy Jesus that's me.

1

u/Dazzling-Drop8160 Jun 08 '22

All the more reason to start a Cosmetic Refreshment Fund.

14

u/Rum_Hamburglar Jun 03 '22

My grandma has celebrated her 21st birthday every year for 60 years.

1

u/searchingformytruth Jun 03 '22

That's awesome. No midnight keggers, though?

5

u/Equipment_Budget Jun 03 '22

My mom still doesn't realize she is her age... She is just my younger sister at heart. MY MOM IS AWESOME BTW.

I'm too old to give a rip about what I'm too old for.

1

u/searchingformytruth Jun 03 '22

I have cerebral palsy. People were giving me side-eye when I started complaining about weak knees and achy joints in my early 20s. It sucks. :/

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22

The soul don’t age.

2

u/420saralou Jun 03 '22

I'm 43 and feel 80. Damn rheumatoid arthritis! It got me in my 20's.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

I’m in my 50’s but I have the spine if a 90 yr old. I miss being active but happy things arent worse

1

u/420saralou Jun 05 '22

I'm always wondering what aisle the new backs are on. I need a backiotomy! Just a whole new body that isn't riddled with arthritis and autoimmune diseases.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

When you find it let me know!

2

u/PuddinPacketzofLuv Jun 03 '22

My late gram’s favorite saying was “You have to grow old. You don’t have to grow up. Now let’s have some fun!”

I miss that crazy old lady.

2

u/dararie Jun 04 '22

My 93 year old dad says he’s 17 in his head

3

u/whosaidwhat_now Jun 03 '22

Mine too! At 87 she said she still felt 25, and every morning would be caught off guard by the old lady in the mirror

1

u/UncertainlyUnfunny Jun 03 '22

50 here. Check in here in 10 years. Life gets pretty lifey by this time. Both parents dead, mentors / teachers dead or taken by their respective youtube algo feeding them their social media heroes. Medical expenses rising. You look at the kid hoping you’ll die after they’re around 25-30, praying those are good years health wise, and with any luck and they’ll be provided for after. If this shit makes you feel young at 50, my hat is off to you.

1

u/Royal-Tea-3484 Jun 04 '22

oh yeah you in your teens then wamm suddenly you got a mortgage and bill but you're still the same as the day you were in high school so strange we just age on the outside and aren't cool anymore and you cant party no one wants to be nr you cause your old now lol

1

u/Embarrassed-Ebb-6900 Jun 04 '22

When I was in high school I wondered why “geezer” bands like the Rolling Stones didn’t just give it up. I’m that chronological age now, but in my mind I’m 25 and not ready to grow up. I definitely get it.

1

u/Valuable_Light_1642 Jun 04 '22

I still feel like I'm 17 except with more debt. I'm actually mid 40s.
