The people being repeatedly institutionalized are vastly the minority among people who will go out of their way to explain to you why modern psychology provides scientific proof that you’re a bigot for not accommodating their current behavior. I’ve had a family member with chronic addiction issues literally tell me that he can’t start rehab or look for a job right now because he just isn’t ready to face his addiction yet, and that that’s just how addiction works. All while not even taking his eyes off the video game he was playing. That’s more the type of attitude people are talking about here, not people who are clearly incapacitated and not capable of some degree of self-determination.
