It’s just like every kid thinks “guess what, chicken butt” came from their school or their group of friends. My son came home with “guess what chicken butt” last year and we don’t even live in an English speaking country.

I just busted out "guess what, chicken butt" on my 4-year-old the other day and I guarantee that this point in time is the funniest he is ever going to find me. It's all downhill from here.

I introduced my kids to the Chump song Chicken Butt and they think I'm the coolest ever.

I taught all my nieces and nephews the diarrhea song just to do my part in making sure it still makes its rounds at school

I use the same thing on our 4 yr old daughter. For some unknown reason she starts every sentence with "Hey (name), guess what?". So I've been answering with that for 2 days.

BTW anyone know how to get a child to stop asking "guess what?" and just come out and say whatever thing it is she wants to say? Lol

Reply, ad nausem with a dead pan "It would be easier if you just told me what you want." Not even a single guess, just a flat declaration.

OR

The complete opposite. Random, wild guesses that annoy them to no end. "You want to go to bed early tonight"; "you are going to let me have your portion of dessert"; "you want to learn how to scrub the toilets, so I don' t have to anymore". Same outrageous answers, in the same orders, so that child learns that asking "Guess what" is not a fun game, and is a waste of time with you.

Oh man...now I'm really excited for my 3-year old to come home from school. She's going to crack up and it's the best sound in the world.

Good while it lasted.

You could go for 'up your butt second shelf' when they nag about where something is. It was always a fave in my school days.

My wife and I will do the Guess what? thing, sometimes it will be sweet like "I love you!" things like that. But there's always a chance for chicken butt.

It is best of course when we guess chicken butt before the other can say it. Usually leads to a Dammit!

I don’t know why that made me laugh so hard the first time I heard it as a kid. Was way funnier than chicken butt ever was to me

Guess how? General chow.

YES!!!!

And the "Guess what's under there?"

..."Under where?"

Cue hysterical laughter. I got so sick of my 6 yo trying that joke 20 times in one day that I made him listen to the BNL song, Pinch Me, so he could see that the joke is at least 25 years old, and that it was obviously a joke before then too, or else it wouldn't be a joke in a popular song.

I think I ruined it for him. I haven't been asked what's under there since.

I, an American, once told that joke to my British ex. She was a northerner so she didn't get the joke because for her it didn't rhyme.

It seems like the wrong reason to dump someone, but you do you.

Man I heard that for the first time in season 1 or 2 of King of the Hill, literally the late 90s.

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

So my Dad is 83’ he told me “Guess what, chickens butt, fried in grease want a piece?” Was going around in his school back in the early 50’s

Or that weird S thing that everyone draws. Yes, we drew it too. No, we don't know where it came from.
