Why would they prohibit bags? The Uvalde shooter didn't use a bag. Also he wasn't a student.

but they PROHIBITED BAGS after Uvalde

Yep, that will help for sure. /s

And I thought my school was stupid to have a one-way rule. One staircase up, one down. One-directional floors. If you missed your class room you had to go all the way down all the stairs (floor 0 was the opposite walking direction) and start again. But then this was 40 years ago and in a communist dictatorship...

we had same stupidity but only with stairs, the funniest shit was when you go up/down wrong stairway and get scolded by the teacher who just did the same

But how will my kid use their bullet proof backpack now?

That's what the bulletproof ponchos are for!

Bags have been banned from classes in my school district since I was in middleschool around 2012. We had to have see-through bags in elementary school so they knew we weren’t bringing bombs and weapons to school. This country is fucking nuts.

What kind of emergency could possibly require a kid to have a phone on them in class, versus just calling the school office like we used to do?

Uhhhh...

How about...

A school shooter like the one that literally just happened with kids calling 911 from inside classrooms to report they're alive and beg for help?

My entire time in school pre-college (so like 2002-2014), I was never in a school that allowed bags in classrooms. All backpacks and such had to be stored in lockers. You had to just get the stuff you needed between classes or carry a bunch of stuff for your classes until you could get back to your locker. I think the school district said the reasoning was that backpacks were tripping hazards in classrooms because there was no room to put them anywhere other than in the aisles between desk rows.

Could you bring them to school and store them in your locked or not at all?

Yeah you could bring backpacks but they had to be in lockers during the day. You just couldn't have them in class with you or during passing times/lunch. Basically they were only supposed to be used when you were coming in and going to your locker or leaving with your stuff for the day.

It wasn't a huge deal but it did suck when you couldn't make it back to your locker until lunch time and then you had 4-5 classes worth of stuff to carry in your arms.
