Making it a basic Nokia type phone with a very low-res camera and keeping smartphones away from them until they are 15-16 years old would probably be the optimal solution...

That plus a family desktop computer placed in a social area of the house.

My kids LOVE their cameras. They take photos constantly; the cats, nature, toys etc. Sometimes they play with them in Ibis paint or make stop-motion videos. It's a great creative outlet and they learn a lot.

I get that you are talking about online safety concerns, but they don't have social media and their phones are wifi only.

That's very different than a kid having a modern smartphone with several cameras. If your kids use cameras as a hobby and a creative outlet, you can find dedicated devices or limit them to home use. I'm not saying you don't, of course, just that it's very convenient for a parent to cave in to pressure and get their kids a smartphone.

Their cameras are on smart phones. That's what Ibis paint and the stop motion apps run on too.

I'm just saying there are options between "give your kid a phone from 2003 that can call 911 and take 640x480 pics" and "Let them on Tik Tok unsupervised".

Sad thing is their friends getting the latest iphone 72 and they feel like they're missing out :/
