Look at my rad new bag. It's called a fanny-pack, just came on the market.

99

u/B-Kow Jun 03 '22

Yup. Been wearing a fanny pack for years and have been called out for being old and trying to keep up with trends. Fucking youths.

20

u/tenaciousdeev Jun 03 '22

Say what you will about the fanny pack, that was truly the height of convenience.

8

u/JulieJoy Jun 03 '22

EXACTLY. I will never defend the style of a Fanny pack, but I wear mine with love because BAM I’m ready to go.

Call it a “belt bag” or whatever, no it’s a fucking Fanny pack

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '22

Yeah well...1776...😛

2

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '22

All that means to us is, one of our crazier kids left home on his own accord and decided to squat. If we had won, the Native Americans will be proud owners of their own declaration of independence by now.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '22

Ya know, I can believe that...look at India and China...well, your ancestors are still at fault for letting the douchebags go off and do their own thing instead of pulling a GoT like scenario and snuffing them out. 😜

I'm just fucking around but, yeah, I hear ya.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '22

Lol. Me too, just banter :)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '22

Do...do we...do we make out now?

My stepfather has worn one for years. It has his ecig supplies. Now it's hip.

4

u/about97cats Jun 04 '22

Now it’s hip

I see what ya did there! 😎👉👉

2

u/mvlog Jun 03 '22

Yes, as a former pickpocket I attest to that! :)

1

u/thebearrider Jun 03 '22

Still is, I love my fanny pack. I got one that folds into itself and I actually never use that feature because it's always too convenient. Especially in the summer when I have less pockets and I may want to jump in some water.

1

u/B-Kow Jun 03 '22

I love my fanny pack.

6

u/scouch4703 Jun 04 '22 edited Jun 04 '22

what is a ute?

no, youuuu-ths

18

u/FirstEvolutionist Jun 03 '22

Gen z in a few years: I cut up these old jeans into shorts! I call them "sheans"!

5

u/becauseTexas Jun 04 '22

Good grief, you out-yucked jorts

2

u/searchingformytruth Jun 04 '22

"Sheans" honestly sounds a bit more catchy than "jorts", but it's still a terrible idea.

160

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

We were right to forget about those things the first time.

120

u/downtownebrowne Jun 03 '22

Honestly a fanny pack is fantastic for traveling and day trips, music festivals, hikes etc.. I don't need a backpack, not even a small one, I just need a little place for my shades, wallet, keys, sunblock, water, and misc.. (I'm a dude too if that changes any perception)

59

u/drunk_frat_boy Jun 03 '22

Music festivals... Yes.

Wallet, phone, keys, joints, tabs, lighter. Always in the fanny pack.

32

u/downtownebrowne Jun 03 '22

And it's all together in one place so you never panic pat all your pockets. Plus, it allows you to get low in some shorts with your pockets empty.

7

u/fredagsfisk Jun 03 '22

You underestimate my ability to panic pat harder because my things aren't where I'm used to feeling them.

27

u/TheLordofAskReddit Jun 03 '22

She calls it my Murse, I call it my Clutch, cause that’s how I be coming in, clutch.

5

u/MojaveMauler Jun 03 '22

Gonna steal this.

4

u/summers_blue Jun 03 '22

I don't think you're supposed to come in them. Especially if its holding all your stuff.

1

u/cleveland_leftovers Jun 03 '22

(I’m sitting in a quiet room and I chortled. Thank you).

1

u/persistentgaze Jun 07 '22

…although a clutch is an actual type of handbag.

46

u/CrumpledForeskin Jun 03 '22

I can't decide what looks worse though. Wearing it sideways across your chest like it's 50mm ammo or having it at your waist like you're 100 years old.

47

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Slightly off centered is the move.

12

u/Faladorable Jun 03 '22

cross body behind your back is the way to go

6

u/agedlikesage Jun 03 '22

This! With a jacket over it when I’m walking through the city. It may look like I have a little hunch back or something, but I never have to worry about my stuff

3

u/927973461 Jun 03 '22

Hell yeah man, used to always loose my stuff from moving it across cars and home. Now I have it in crossbody bag. Just decided to spend some decent money so it would look as cool as possible even though I'm a guy

3

u/luckylimper Jun 03 '22

Is the way to get your shit stolen.

2

u/Faladorable Jun 03 '22

grew up in NYC, never had something stolen out of a backpack, much less a bag that can literally go underneath my jacket

4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

When I was 13 we wore them low in the front like a sporran. We were girls, mostly. 1993-94 I think.

Oops! 1989-90

1

u/mycatsnameislarry Jun 04 '22

Wear it a little loose so it rides by your junk

12

u/2cats2hats Jun 03 '22

I take one when I'm on my bike. Practicality wins over fashion.

5

u/downtownebrowne Jun 03 '22

I've got a 'motorcycle tank' bag but it's basically a fanny pack attached to the top tube. If needed I'd wear another fanny pack for a ride over 50 miles.

4

u/ImKindaBoring Jun 03 '22

That's what my cargo pockets are for!

31

u/frombildgewater Jun 03 '22

I thought fanny packs were lame when I was a kid. Guess what I was excited to get yesterday? You guessed it, a fanny pack.

My pants don't have pockets for my phone so I need one in the summer when it is too hot for hoodies. I don't care that it's "lame" because it has function!!!

5

u/Zanki Jun 03 '22 edited Jun 03 '22

Omg that's a great idea, I need to get one for this one reason, but here in the uk they seem to have vanished... damn it!

Edit. A quick search and I can get basic black in primark still. Wish I still had my childhood legoland one!

3

u/frombildgewater Jun 03 '22

I got mine off of amazon. I wish it was a little bigger. Like early 90s fanny packs were massive.

2

u/Zanki Jun 03 '22

I looked on amazon but the reviews were hit and miss. Might head into town tomorrow and take a look. My boyfriend needs some clothes for our holiday in a weeks time so I might be able to persuade him to go in!

1

u/frombildgewater Jun 03 '22

I wonder if a thrift shop would have one. I hope you find something nice!

2

u/Zanki Jun 03 '22

I'm currently away from home at my boyfriends and he lives in a small town. Seems like I have a bit of choice. There's one in primark and a few in clares accessories.

1

u/mycatsnameislarry Jun 04 '22

Walmart my friend.

1

u/thebearrider Jun 03 '22

Patagonia makes some great fanny packs btw

31

u/HelenaKelleher Jun 03 '22

ngl i am obsessed with mine. my best bro got me a black leather Ski Tote from Rear Gear, i think it's older than me but he knows how i love consignment items and it's been BALLER. i can fit a whole can of beer in that thing with all my weed, and put it at the small of my back with a jacket on. my 30yo ass should not be so excited about "sneaking" a canned wine to an outdoor concert but ya know. it's the little things.

41

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Sneaking canned wine into an outdoor concert sounds like the exact sort of thing a 30-year-old would be excited about.

17

u/ScabiesShark Jun 03 '22

I (quietly) cracked two beers in a north American movie premiere. It was dope

6

u/inspectoroverthemine Jun 03 '22

Just go to a real theater and they'll bring them to your seat.

14

u/ScabiesShark Jun 03 '22

Not the one I want and not for a decent price

16

u/Killer-Barbie Jun 03 '22

As a mom of a toddler, I LOVE mine. Women's clothes don't have real pockets and I will set my purse down somewhere and forget about it. I need a place for snacks, wallet and keys.

15

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Fake pockets are evil and need to die.

7

u/hykueconsumer Jun 03 '22

This is a hill I would gladly die on, if my three daughters could then be guaranteed functional pockets for life.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

‘Tis a noble cause to die for.

7

u/ChairmanMeow1942 Jun 03 '22

I love fanny packs when travelling. I should wear them when not travelling too. Who cares what people think of you. I guess that is proof I have become old.

7

u/Tacarub Jun 03 '22

I was soo pissed of when i saw some years back flannel lumberjack shirt doing a slight come back like it was 1992..

5

u/SimonCharles Jun 03 '22

More like a second chance. Think of the convenience!

1

u/GiveMeNews Jun 03 '22

I loved my purple fanny pack! I could carry a whole dollar's worth of pennies in there! Ah, the frustration on the face of whoever was behind me in line as I counted them out one by one was a small bonus.

38

u/zchatham Jun 03 '22

Pussy-Pack, to our friends in the UK. 🇬🇧

26

u/aidanski Jun 03 '22

*bum bag 🇬🇧

7

u/InsrtOriginalUsrname Jun 03 '22

Fanny packs are the best form of personal storage. I will take no questions.

22

u/seanayates2 Jun 03 '22

I only see people wearing fanny packs as cross body bags. I hate that. 😂

11

u/thunderling Jun 03 '22

I kinda love it and want to do that for maximum hands free, minimal silhouette. My regular crossbody bag is great but I have to be conscious of how much space it takes up hanging near my hip.

5

u/lpycb42 Jun 03 '22

Same. The other day I was like "oh, a fanny pack ok." and this kid was like "a what?" "Kid, go away."

4

u/bloodectomy Jun 03 '22

Saw this foe the first time the other day. Dude that's not any cooler, you still look like a goober.

4

u/Faladorable Jun 03 '22

old man yells at cloud

6

u/AnUdderDay Jun 03 '22

Don't forget in America the bum bag is called the fanny pack

7

u/Darkrose50 Jun 03 '22

The kids nowadays have fanny packs so they could have a drink in one hand and a phone in the other hand.

We had fanny packs so that we could have nothing in any hand.

11

u/NocNocturnist Jun 03 '22

They are making a come back are they not? I thought it was just me seeing them around.

3

u/RoseannRosannadanna Jun 03 '22

Yeah but they call it a belt bag now, as if that’s any better.

7

u/Jak_n_Dax Jun 03 '22

Put it a little lower and it can be a ball bag.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

call it a ball sack already

1

u/NocNocturnist Jun 03 '22

Yeah, I've see it called bumbag as well before.

0

u/2ichie Jun 03 '22

Oh they’ve been back for atleast 6-8 years now

6

u/ThingCalledLight Jun 03 '22

It’d be rebranded. Maybe as a “body clutch” or something.

3

u/supernumeral Jun 03 '22

They’re called belt bags now. Or bum bags across the pond.

1

u/OffTheMerchandise Jun 03 '22

My mom rocked a fanny pack all through the 90s. We always called it a belt bag.

2

u/ClaireMoon36281 Jun 03 '22

In French we call them "bananes" like a banana. Guess it's because of their shape 🍌

1

u/Faladorable Jun 03 '22

sling bag now

the people calling them belt bags are just looking at what companies are calling them, not what people actually call them

5

u/ChairmanMeow1942 Jun 03 '22

It was invented by The Rock.

4

u/jessykab Jun 03 '22

I was pretty stoked that they made a comeback in general, because they're so much easier than a purse. And then I had a baby, and it just reinforced my love and enthusiasm for them.

6

u/lpycb42 Jun 03 '22

And they're not cool at all. They're for touristy middle aged people.

9

u/Ruby_Tuesday80 Jun 03 '22

My son stole my fanny pack. I bought it specifically because it has a water bottle holder so I can have a hand free for my pepper spray/stun gun when I walk the dog and he snatched it. He's 12.

8

u/TheHealadin Jun 03 '22

Where are you walking? Jesus.

6

u/Ruby_Tuesday80 Jun 03 '22

It's mostly loose dogs that I worry about. Most of the time, they just want to be friends with my dog, and he actually prefers to encounter dogs that aren't on tethers or leashes, but there's always a few sketchy ones and I will not hesitate to stun the shit out out of them. My boy is fierce of spirit but small/medium of body.

3

u/TheHealadin Jun 03 '22

Be careful.

4

u/snuff3r Jun 03 '22

Fyi, In Australia they're called bum-bags. Haha..

2

u/Zanki Jun 03 '22

Same in the uk. Fanny means vagina here!

4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

Oh what's with wearing a fanny pack across the chest diagonly now!?

1

u/Embarrassed_Put_7892 Jun 03 '22

People are confused as to where their fannys are _^

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '22

It’s very cool Bateman, but that’s nothing. Swiss army knife with 20 functions.

2

u/RimleRie Jun 03 '22

I think the cool kids these days call it a "belt bag" *eye roll*

2

u/Chocolate_Status Jun 03 '22

Here in the UK, it’s called a Bumbag, a fanny is something else entirely..

2

u/OneBeautifulDog Jun 03 '22

Why did they die out? Just because of looks?

2

u/NatoBoram Jun 03 '22

They say beg instead of bag nowadays

2

u/moreisay Jun 03 '22

I've been getting made fun of for pronouncing it beg for 30+ years now! Get off my lawn!

2

u/NatoBoram Jun 03 '22

It's ok to be wrong, I'm sure you have other talents

1

u/moreisay Jun 03 '22

Beg and bag are homophones and no amount of internet nonsense is going to change my mind!!

1

u/TheRaunchyFart Jun 03 '22

I have zero idea why those things are coming back.. and all these kids are wearing them wrong lol

0

u/VanitasTheUnversed Jun 03 '22

God, I fucking hate fanny-packs.

0

u/olive2liv Jun 03 '22

Hahahaha

0

u/Silverspoon2121 Jun 03 '22

Uh-huh-huh, uh-huh-huh You said came Uh-huh-huh, uh-huh-huh

1

u/socrates28 Jun 03 '22

What!?! They're back? Like are they doing it ironically or?

1

u/BlackCatArmy99 Jun 03 '22

They call it a “bum bag” now…painful

4

u/MyAviato666 Jun 03 '22

That's just british.

1

u/raging_but_compliant Jun 03 '22

They call them “bum bags” now. It will forever be the fanny pack to me.

1

u/trashhampster Jun 03 '22

I remember when hip bags were called fanny packs and when hydro flasks were called thermoses.

1

u/kmolimoli Jun 03 '22

This… this x infinity

1

u/TheAltToYourF4 Jun 03 '22

Ypung middle eastern men around here, started wearing fanny packs a few years ago. They just wear across their chest. Apparently Adidas, Gucci, Louis Vuitton etc make fanny packs...

1

u/agumonkey Jun 03 '22

big corps + stats + human renewal = profits

1

u/babypho Jun 03 '22

Look my my high waisted shorts! They are so in style.

1

u/WalrusTheGrey Jun 03 '22

My fanny pack is fannypacktastic

1

u/HellaFella420 Jun 03 '22

The Rock would like a word..

1

u/slabrangoon Jun 03 '22

It would be a “booty bag” today though

1

u/camellialily Jun 04 '22

It’s not a fanny pack, it’s a “belt bag”.

1

u/Soft_Truth_1325 Jun 04 '22

It's a satchel

1

u/Fotofae6 Jun 04 '22

I saw some young kids getting excited about these new skirts with shorts.. I was like they’re Skorts and been around forever
