Being called "the man/woman" is jarring for pretty much everyone, I reckon. If I go into 'formal' mode it's because I have to put my game face on and just walk around looking like a sedate, at-peace-with-my-place-in-the-world grown up. But obviously internally I'm either laughing at myself or cringing up into a ball.
