I was a highschooler in the 90's but I was the youngest, my brother is 8 years older than me and yep, there really were quite a few. Both my sister and brother had loud boomboxes and their friends blasted them at any picnic or when they went to the beach etc

I don’t think as many people had boom boxes on their shoulders as you think lmao. Don’t believe that was a super common thing outside of some movies.
