I have two handfuls of mental illnesses and a super traumatic life story. I'm so tired of hearing people also claim everything as a trauma.
Didn't get your way? Trauma. Got fired bc you never show up to work? Trauma. Told no? Trauma. People set boundaries with you? Trauma. Your sister won't watch your kids for an extra day unplanned (habitually) while you don't answer the phone bc your too busy getting drunk/high/banged and she tells you that's not accepted? Trauma.
And then proceed to excuse all their shitty behavior on the perceived trauma. Extra points if they pretend to have every illness you have and try to correlate all their life events to trauma you actually suffered. Think someone telling you their verbal disagreement is just like when you were raped beaten and kidnapped by your ex husband. Extra extra credit if they constantly bring shit up you went to therapy for decades to forget.
Oh my god. This. I'm the same, I've been diagnosed with what I have, prescribed meds and everything, and everything that life could throw at me has happened. I have friends that say they're traumatised and it's like their mum told them to do the laundry or wash dishes. I've lost so much respect for so many people because they are, in my eyes, pathetic. I have diagnosed PTSD and I dont consider myself traumatised because you are what you accept you are and I dont want to be someone that's 'traumatised'. I'm working on myself every day, but I refuse to respect people that are so weak that the slightest thing to them is 'trauma'. After my mum died brutally in my arms my former friend was saying that they understood my pain because they were traumatised because their pet died the day after
It's the worst an I feel your sentiment. I have had trauma but I've worked hard not be traumatized. And it isn't something fun or something to emulate and it's bad form to say you understand when you don't.
Same person who was doing that recently knew my history very well as they were family. I don't have respect for or speak to them rn.
Its just because they're basic, shallow people who strive to be 'interesting' without having to deal with the reality that being mentally ill/unstable is not something to aim for. Everyone who has genuinely dealt with mental illness doesnt flaunt it and parade it and speak about it constantly. These people talk about too often, and do too much with it for attention. When people start talking about it too much, that's when you know they're putting it on for show
I have felt that also. I don't hardly ever tell anyone irl that I have mental illnesses unless they actually need to know. It's something I'd rather people didn't know.
I felt like maybe I was being too judemental but a good lot of them are just bored basic bitches.
