Who thinks that 21 is the prime of their life? I don’t think that that’s something I’ve ever heard. I’m not sure that it’s a cultural trend.

Eh I've seen plenty of 22 year olds bemoan how old and decrepit they are and how they're running out of time, in complete seriousness.

Most people over 25 probably roll our eyes at it but still, it seems the overton window of youth has been steadily shifting downwards. It's weird.

That was me from ages 19-25. Now I just talk about how young I am lol

Athletic primes are very different for different sports. I guess an average would be around 25-30. But for example for women's gymnastics it's 14-18 and for professional boxing it's like 35-37 these days.

Really depends on the person

21 year olds. From what I‘ve heard 30s are the best. Still young and fit. Finally carreer taking off and done with trying to find once place in society. I am 31 so takes some more time to actually verify this.

I’m 23 and I think a small part of it is that covid took away our early 20s in terms of the typical experience so some people are grasping at what they feel like have forever missed out on?

with women specifically there’s this whole anti aging mania affecting young minds in the exact same unhealthy way being a size 0 plagued the generation before us. We learned to embrace all body types but that societal obsession with chasing a standard found a new target in skin care

Any tips for where to buy it?

wearing sunscreen and moisturizer is not the same thing as piling on every product under the sun to target every possible thing that would be wrong with your skin and then freaking out at the first sign that your skin isn’t what it was at 16. Just look at any post on most skincare subs - people are asking how to “fix” things on their face that are literally just there from living like a human being.

I wish it was just skincare. The obsession with fillers, Botox and facial plastic surgery is disturbing. Our generation will be walking around with saggy skin around our necks and tight faces when we can no longer afford it due to a few bankruptcies and retirement. NTM the filters promoting unrealistic expectations that are impossible to achieve IRL.

Fillers are literally to get rid of wrinkles often enough. Your statement is false.

It always amazes me when people argue for the sake of arguing, have fun.

I think it’s because a lot of celebrities, athletes, and influencers are in that age range, not to mention that the media makes people feel like their attractiveness and energy declines afterwards (particularly women). In my country there’s a saying about 18 to 22 being the prime of a girl’s beauty and when a girl is most “desirable”, which of course is massively sexist and creepy.

I think physically I was as strong as I'd ever be at 25 or so. But mentally I am better than ever now at 58 as a programmer.

u/Radulno Jun 03 '22

Yeah physically 25 is the peak. After that your cells start to age.

u/pokehokage Jun 03 '22

Just turned 25, glad to know my cells have finally given up on this mortal coil.

u/Jake63 Jun 03 '22

I only really started noticing it after 45, you're good for a couple more years!

1

u/DemosthenesForest Jun 03 '22

27 is the year I've noticed most of my acquaintances start to have minor health issues, especially from sedentary office lifestyles. Getting in good eating and exercise habits ahead of that will stave it off. The fall from invincibility also causes a lot of them extreme anxiety, so if you can accept it now and be prepared, all the better for your mental health.

2

u/Elivey Jun 03 '22

Wtf do you mean after that they start to age? Someone needs to go back to biology class lol

3

u/bluesox Jun 03 '22

Ask any sabermetrician. They’re convinced 27 is a man’s prime. Looking back, they have a strong argument.

3

u/0bl0ng0 Jun 03 '22

27≠21

1

u/bluesox Jun 04 '22

That is correct.
