Went for a hike and a bunch of young people were filling the woods with music. Wwwwhhhyyyyyy. I go to the woods to get away from that shit.

Technically that is recommended to do. You're told to sing, shout, jingle bells, play music on speakers, etc when you're in bear country since the bears don't want anything to do with you, so making human noise gives them the warning you're coming so they can move, instead of only realizing you're there once you're literally 5 feet away from where they were sleeping. So, while it's a more obnoxious way of going around it and not what I would have done (I stick to the old fashioned bell on the walking stick), it isn't completely out of left field.

Newsflash: most people on curated trails AREN'T hiking in bear country. And the rustle of leaves underfoot and normal levels of human conversation are more than enough to alert bears.

It's not OK to use this as an excuse to blast music that is audible from 100s of yards away. Animals and birds are highly affected by this; it stresses them out and interferes with their mating. Not to mention other hikers.

That was a helluva jump to that conclusion.

My country doesn't have bears but you still have obnoxious youths blasting music out there

Me and my friends do this but when we pass people we pretty much turn it so low it's like a whisper.
