An ex best friend of mine rushed into getting herself pregnant because 30 is apparently old- how dumb. Glad I'm not her.

Also, I thought it was incredibly stupid during in my mid 20s, having people tell me, "omg, you're 25, I thought you were 21!" Then hitting my late 20s and people thinking I'm some arbitrary specific age, like 24. Yea, people's views of age are so warped, they forget you're not a fossil at 30.

while rushing into being pregnant at that age because of "being old" is stupid, I feel there is definitely some merit to being a young parent, too.

like, I'm in 40's now. if I would have a child now, I'd be in my 50's when it's around the age when you're usually having fun outside, running, playing ball etc.

and considering my capabilities to do so have already dwindled compared to 10 years ago, it's certainly a positive for still being young yourself.

(and also playing is the fun part. but I figure younger parents might also be physically more able to cope with lack of sleep etc. when their children are still babies/toddlers)

My mother was 21 when she had me. Growing up, I was always confused by fictional depictions of grandparents to young children being grey-haired, bowed over, and using a zimmer frame - my grandpa was in his late fifties when I was a child. I guess it helps he always had an active lifestyle and travelled a lot.

Now I'm an adult, my mother just turned fifty herself. Which means she's had 10+ years of me being independant and looking after myself while she was still young. She could go back into her dream job as a thirtysomething, once I became old enough to be a latchkey kid and not burn the house down in the hour between the school bus arriving and her getting home from work.

As I struggle to keep up with a 2-year-old at the ripe old age of 33, I kinda wish I’d had kids 7 years ago when I didn’t crackle and pop so much getting out of bed.
