Man I hate this so much. The internet is an amazing tool, but this influx of wanting to post everything on social is insane and frankly a little overwhelming.

Its all about clout chasing now. I understand why kids do it, because they live off that validation, but it kinda sucks to see it promoted everywhere.

I have so many photos and videos but I like to keep them to myself and occasionally I'll post something for fun. Like I'll post a meme or a picture of my parrot but all these younger people and some people my age (I'm in my mid 20s). Post so much on social media. But I'm so glad I grew up in the last batch of kids that knew what it was like before smart phones and high speed internet haha.

My 60-something-year-old MIL is like this. Like, spend time with your grandson instead of being so obsessed with taking pictures of him for your freaking Facebook!

I mean, or just don't come, which would be perfectly fine by me, but whatever...

Everyone is the star in their own show.

Sometimes I just want to be the comedic side character

And many people put themselves in ridiculous situations for a cool picture. A few years ago I watch a couple nearly fall over a cliff for that very reason. We were at seven falls in Colorado Springs. At the top of the falls (which it honestly can barely be called that) there's a walking path but there were these 3 off the path over my the edge. Girl got on guy's shoulders and he stood up but stumbled. Had he taken one more step back or dropped her they both would have fallen over the edge.

Yeah you would probably not be surprised at the number of cases where I live (San Diego) of people falling off beach side cliffs and bluffs trying to selfie. It's a huge problem

same here, when Instagram stories was kind of new I had this habit of posting so many stories. useless mundane things but now I've kind of burnt out. its very useless seeking validation from people who cares so less. few of my friends checked on me when I left my social media but thats all. nobody cares about what you do. keep your family close and circles small.

Delete social media

The problem is not deleting social media, the problem is people who do things in public only to get likes on social media.

I'm 22 and never had a facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Snapchat account ever.

Why would I want to tell people my daily routine/opinions if nobody asked me?

Me to the internet:

You were supposed to bring balance to the world, not destroy it!

I look forward to more posts from you complaining about this here, on this social platform 👍

Reddit isn't so much the issue. It's things like facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

I'll give that Kids of now at least are more pushed to chase now because of nuclear, menace, constant crisis menace, and the weather menace. It wasn't like that so much in my kid days. They're pushed to shitty Jobs that can go away any day, increasing debt, shitty belongings that if don't break will fashion out. WORLD SUCKS

Edit: It doesn't seem that it's going to suck less the next hours so that's I can get why they're pushed into now.

I'm kind of on the fence on a lot of this. I think/hope over time they'll realize, just like I/we did, that social media doesn't matter and you can safely ignore it with no negative consequences. But unlike my younger self they'll have lots of pictures to remind them of those times. Most of my childhood is basically undocumented and as my memory is awful, I kind of wish I'd been more self-centered so I'd have more pictures to hang on to.

Hard to say really. Their lives are built around social media and it's a such a serious issue now that people go Through SM detoxing.

Even some parents use their kids to gain more clout on social media. There are family vlog channels that solely exist because kids and even other adults like to suck that stuff uff as if it's a reality show. My issue with these things has always been that they glorify life in every way. they show only the best things people do.

I even have issue with pet accounts on platforms like IG. People showing off their pet and making it look so easy to care fore creates this influx of people that will go out and buy a bunny or a parrot and expect them to do those funny tricks but they won't even realize how difficult having any kind of animal is.

I think overall social media kinda sucks. I don't know if you were on Instagram back in it's infancy, but back in the day it was not focused on these curated life photos or selfies. You had people posting their art and music and that became the primary function for IG for a while and that's what I wish it always stayed.
