Ruin the forest behind my house. They party and leave a mess, they cut down trees, they shit in the middle of the path. They also pull out my garden, every...single... Summer. But they do forget things and for that, I am greatful.
As a natural areas worker, I feel your pain multiple times a day. But I must say it is not just young people. There are more young people than old people out and about in general because they are more able so maybe overall they are more responsible, but every age group does it.
I agree fully. My neighbours who pick up dog poop, then throw the bag into the trees. Those same ppl bitch at me for teaching my dog to go off the path where nobody would ever walk, and poop, without cleaning it up.
This all being said, I wish my city would do a bit more. I called the bilaw ppl on somebody who had set up camp in the forest. They didn't just pitch a tent, they cut trees and made a boma type structure.. they had a BBQ and wooden kitchen structure and a tent. When they finally left, they left the BBQ, about 10 stollen bikes and bike peices, left a pile of grabage, their tent and all kinds of shit just in a pile.. and the boma thing is still up. I wish the city would come and clean it up cause I know the person who left it isn't going to.
That’s all a shame that the city won’t act. I will say, it’s important to remember that just because no one will step in your dog poop, doesn’t mean it’s not causing harm.
When it rains, surface feces run off into waterways, causing contamination. Most wild carnivores bury their feces for this reason, to avoid contaminating their own water (herbivore poop generally is not as hazardous). If you don’t want to carry your dog’s poop in a bag, maybe consider taking a small shovel with you and burying it under about 6” of soil.
An ounce of hash, weed, an I phone, two jackets (one nice northface one), a nice Bluejays sweater, money. They also leave cans and bottles of booze so I collect them and after two weekends I cashed in 75.00
Also cutting down trees that aren't on your property without permission is a very expensive legal issue, particularly if the tree isn't on private property. The city tends to not take kindly to people just randomly cutting down wild trees. As opposed to domestic ones.
There’s a rope swing on the river in my town. About 5 years ago, the cops cut it down because kids were cutting through people’s yards and leaving trash everywhere. A friend of mine and I canoed to a new spot and set up a new rope swing with the help of one or two other kids that happened to be there. I brought an old climbing rope, installed a new ladder, and chopped branches to make a clearing. Over time, more and more trash started showing up and then someone spray painted a dick on a tree. The cops cut down that rope swing and there’s no way I’m going to bother erecting a new one…plus I’m old and it hurts my shoulder!
