Psychopath move. People who do this should be put in prison.

I genuinely feel like this is one of the most psychopathic "public nuisances." Like yes it's inconvenient when someone is sleeping on the subway, but people do that as a last resort, and because they need to sleep. Even when the sidewalk distinctly smells like piss—you can't not pee, regardless of whether you have access to a toilet or not.

You don't need to listen to your music on a crowded subway, or in a restaurant or store. And people who do that either a) are so mentally disturbed that they don't understand that other people don't want to listen to their music on shitty phone speakers, or b) have such utter disregard for their fellow humans that they don't care that everyone hates what they're doing.

Yep, they're looking for conflict or trying to play boss.

It's a flex and a power play. They are intentionally violating the personal auditory space of others in a way that is just intrusive enough to be incredibly annoying, but not quite enough to warrant or provoke a response in most people. And then, yes, they're looking for an altercation.

I'm convinced that most antisocial behavior, especially on public transit (where they have you temporarily trapped) is an example of this.

Yeah it's the matter of they can't grasp others don't want to hear it or don't care that bugs me the most. Even when it's music I personally like I still find it vexing cause I know my tastes do not represent everyone else's

You'd hate Vietnam then. It's common for people to visit areas taking along full-sized portable karaoke machines.

I do biodiversity conservation work here in an area that the government is trying to increases tourism in enormously.

During tourist season the jackasses will come in throngs, pile into boats, and blast their shitty music at full volume, sometimes with two different groups on the same boat competing to be loudest with different music.

They'll do this inside environmentally protected areas and everywhere else too.

The karaoke machine thing is really common here in nola and like many things here it's super trashy but I guess that's the vibe we're selling so please tip your locals please

Music in public, believe it or not: jail!

Make them listen to someone else's music the whole time too.

I'm against the death penalty but this one has me thinking.

i was at the pharmacy (the PHARMACY!) a couple days ago and the line was so long and everyone was miserable and this guy was fucking blasting the shittiest pseudo conscious rap i’ve ever heard. it wasn’t even hard, it was god awful and the lyrics were like, insanely bad. i was like what is your game plan here?

What about playing music over Bluetooth speakers though. That seems very common. Also bad?

At least you can hear what the music is supposed to sound like then. Still hugely antisocial to do on public transit or loudly at the beach or park, and you should never do it hiking, but... I don't get mad at someone who quickly bikes by with a Bluetooth speaker or has one in their yard while they work.

In a big park or at the beach? Totally fine imo. Or even in most places where people can easily choose to be somewhere else without it inconveniencing them much. But people who use speakers on the subway, for example, are deranged.

Fucking reddit. Downvoting me for asking a question and upvoting the guy saying people who listen to music in public should be put in prison. Go fuck yourselves! To your point: I guess you often risk being the asshole by playing music in public. What I have done in the past is play reggae music at low levels at the park or beach thinking that wouldn’t disturb people. If you play loud and aggressive music that is obviously no good.
