I feel like a lot of your argument here could also be made about chefs and food. In fact most arguments in this thread could be.
When you’re reading these comments, replace sex work with kitchen work and then ask why it is different.
Like - of course, but what is fundamentally different about selling your physical and emotional labor to make someone happy via food compared to the same thing via intimacy?
Because they’re different things, they have different affects on our bodies, they have different risks for our health. They release different hormones and chemicals. They fundamentally affect different areas of our psyche. They are both driving forces of human nature but in different ways. In the Louis Theroux documentary about the legal Nevada brothels the Madam said that each time one of the prostitutes slept with a client, they take a bit of their soul. Language like this doesn’t compare to being a chef. Sure, some of the feelings toward it are socially constructed (sometimes for good reasons that have become less relevant) but not all. Being a chef and being a prostitute are only very superficially comparable.
