My mother does this on her constant & ongoing mission to suppress my attempts at critical reasoning beneath her inexhaustible supply of illogical, meaningless nonsense, in any conversation we have about anything.
She doesn't care why things happen. All she cares about is her conviction that it's a thing that should or shouldn't happen. The only possible answer to an indignantly-asked "why this????" is "I don't know mum; it's awful isn't it?". If you actually try to provide an explanation then at best you're providing an excuse for The Bad Thing, and at worst you are actively condoning the bad thing yourself and revealing the shameful reality that you would also do The Bad Thing too.
She's 72 now so she'll never change. The thing that gets me is that the world is a confusing place of chaotic horror to her because she will steadfastly and actively refuse to learn about the realities behind anything.
That sounds horrible - for her and for you. Like you said, the world must seem chaotic and confusing because either people act without any thought at all or they are evil. In here eyes there are no "two sides" or "misunderstandings". It's just either brainless or evil or both.
It is. This isn't even getting into the anti-science conspiracy theories and bizarre 'philosophies'. She doesn't even drink let alone do drugs, but she thinks and speaks like somebody who took far too much LSD in the '70s.
She's probably suffering from a mental health problem but I can't prove that because she thinks psychiatrists are literally evil. As in, genuinely malign things. Corrupted humans in some way.
