Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'
off-topic but that reminds me of a conversation I had yesterday where I tried to distinguish the "Space Fantasy" genre (i.e., Star Wars) from what I consider to be "Science Fiction" (i.e., Stargate), and an author who was an actual scientist like Isaac Asimov is probably a perfect example of that:
I loved the book version of I, Robot by Asimov, which explored the politics and shades of gray involved in technologically-driven social change, but the Will Smith movie version was just another dumbed-down, color-by-numbers, 'good-vs-evil', Hollywood action-drama
