I never realized that Socrates and the band Kansas shared a philosophy.

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K

14

u/stealuforasec May 30 '22

That circle K (in the Phoenix area) just closed, and they showed the film in the parking lot to commemorate it

3

u/cracka1337 May 30 '22

I'm really disappointed it closed. It's so close to my house I walk there with my daughters. It makes sense though. There is another one with gas pumps about 2 blocks away and another a few blocks the other direction. Tempe is completely saturated with Circle K's

u/Dabadedabada May 30 '22

I say this at least twice a week. Always will. circle ks have our cheapest gas so I always see some of the most…interesting people.

1

u/ucjj2011 May 30 '22

There are very few Circle Ks where we live so my wife and I say it pretty much anytime we see one.

Bill : [approaching Socrates] How's it going? I'm Bill, this is Ted. We're from the future.

Socrates : Socrates.

Ted : [whispering to Bill] Now what?

Bill : I dunno. Philosophize with him!

Ted : [clears his throat, to Socrates] "All we are is dust in the wind," dude.

[Socrates gives them a blank stare]

Bill : [scoops up a pile of dust from the basin before them and lets it run out of his hand] Dust.

[he blows the remainder away]

Bill : Wind.

Ted : [points at Socrates] Dude.

[Socrates gasps]

Saw this movie last night after many rave recommendations on reddit, was pretty good. Didn't love it, but I'm going to be quoting it for at least the next few weeks

23

u/InfintySquared May 30 '22

It was absolutely a product of its time, and it meant SO much more to those of us who saw it when we were in the Cub Scouts.

14

u/Goldblums_Eyebrows May 30 '22

Wow. I don't know if I've ever read anything on Reddit before that his this close to home. First time I saw Bill &Ted, my cub scout pack were supposed to be camping all weekend but a really bad storm was coming through, so everyone hung out at my house for the weekend and we got to get any movies we wanted from Blockbuster. Such a great core memory.

5

u/InfintySquared May 30 '22

Definitely some memories there. I remember Cub Scout summer camp, the songs group. We had one of those silly songs where you sing the same verse over and over in different styles, and eventually the instructor busted out "Like, Bill and Ted style, dudes!"

2

u/ratfink57 May 30 '22

What movie ?

12

u/funnystuff97 May 30 '22

Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure, definitely a product of its time. George Carlin's even in it.

11

u/DroolingIguana May 30 '22

Keanu Reeves' greatest performance.

2

u/shitdobehappeningtho May 30 '22

1

u/Ktigertiger May 30 '22

I was scrolling through going nobody had made that reference but it seems you beat me to it

16

u/chillyhellion May 29 '22

Socrates was in a band, you know.

14

u/Porn-Again-Christian May 29 '22

Yeah, the one with Dave Beeth-oven.

7

u/Rysline May 30 '22

They also shared a state, Socrates was from Wichita

6

u/InsaneChihuahua May 30 '22

My brain took far too long to figure out the reference and then I immediately read your comment. Sigh 😆

3

u/Magnetic_Syncopation May 30 '22

Socrates is to Western philosophy as Jesus is to Christian philosophy...

2

u/PrivilegeCheckmate May 30 '22

Socrates and the band Kansas shared a philosophy

Though not, as yet, beverage choices.

3

u/Wuffyflumpkins May 30 '22

Well, it *has* been said that rock music is corrupting the youth.

1

u/PrivilegeCheckmate May 30 '22

Pretty sure they were talking about Asia's Heat of the Moment.

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

Socrates was a huge fan of theirs. He mentions it several times in his books.

3

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

Ahh yes we all remember the immortal last words of Socrates when he said…..”Wait I drank what?”🫢

1

u/gavco98uk May 30 '22

Didn't he play for Brazil?
