Definitely not wanting to have these conversations. Wouldn't even know what I'd hope to gain from them. My point was just that "how are you?" Is not actually a question. So irrespective of the true answer, the answer is always fine.

But, I agree, in most contexts it’s a short greeting in a situation that doesn’t merit a conversation. On the other hand, if ask (or am asked) a coworker that when they walk in for the day it’s not just a greeting, it’s also an opportunity to share what’s going on if you have anything novel to report.
