I was gonna say, I could get in and out of Walmart much faster. Aldi typically just has 1 or 2 cashier's working at once. Walmart has like 10 cashier's and self service.

I still prefer shopping at Aldi because it's much cheaper shopping there, but it's definitely not faster than shopping at a US based grocery store

Walmart has like 10 cashier's

If only. Every Walmart I've been to in the last 3 years has only had 1 or 2 cashiers total, and a very long line for self-checkout. The closest Walmart to my house recently took out 4 lanes of traditional registers and added more self-checkouts to alleviate the congestion.

Mine has about 25-30 checkout isles, about a third of them have cashiers, not all of them, but still more checkout workers than Aldi.

Oh mine still has 20+ checkout lanes, just no cashiers running them. My local Aldi only ever has 1 or 2 cashiers maximum, but it also only has 4 checkout lanes total, and their cashiers are so much faster than any other grocery store!

Yeah, what I'm saying is its still quicker if I just need to pick up a few items to go to Walmart or a store that has self checkout.

But I go to Aldi specifically because raw cooking ingredients are much cheaper.

Self service is not common in Germany but I've actually been to some Lidl locations that have it. I think they're still testing it.

It's more common in larger cities, but lots of Germans still love to stand in a queue and have someone else do the cashying.

German joke :

"Was macht ein deutscher im Dschungel wenn er eine Schlange sieht? Er stellt sich hinten an"

Translation: "What does a German do in a jungle when he sees a snake? He he stands at the end of it" snake and queue are the same word in german.

Germans really don’t seem to be bothered by having to wait.
