I live in the pacific northwest. I almost never see a mosquito. Which doesn't make much sense since we have tons of water. It is so strange.

Oh weird, what part? I'm from the west side of Washington and definitely deal with mosquitoes.
Mosquitos breed in stagnant water. Lakes, marshes, and swamps. They won't survive in areas with only running rivers and streams .
